Insurance Authorization/Referral Specialist
Job Summary and Responsibilities:
Obtains authorizations and referrals for hospital procedures and multi‑specialty services in a timely manner.
Accurately enters patient and authorization information into both the hospital and clinic system.
Provides training to office staff regarding required information for authorizations.
Assists clients and staff with basic client account questions.
Keeps current with trends and developments related to essential job competencies.
Pre‑registers patient encounters by collecting complete and accurate demographic and guarantor information, insurance information; requests pre‑services payment and checks for medical necessity.
Assists in the orientation and training of new employees.
Maintains knowledge of current hospital policies.
Attends staff meetings and in‑services as scheduled.
Demonstrates flexibility in job assignments and scheduling.
Job Requirements
High School Diploma or GED.
Minimum two (2) years of experience with the referral/authorization process and interacting with insurance carriers.
Preferred Qualifications
College level business courses helpful.
Preferred scheduling experience in a radiology setting.
Familiarity with the referral/authorization process and interacting with insurance carriers.

Pay Range $15.71 – $22.19 per hour
