Job Details This position is currently a remote opportunity until the establishment of a formal office location within Kansas City. We are targeting the opening of our office in the Overland Park area in September. Upon the opening of the office, the role will transition to an in‑office position with a hybrid work schedule, providing a flexible balance between on‑site and work from home options.
Responsibilities
Process drawings received from the architect into models that can be used by the design team
Prepare electronic drawings with accuracy, neatness, and efficiency using industry software
Assist in the development of design approaches and concepts on assigned projects with assistance from senior design staff
Implement design requirements as related by design team
Perform system design layout and sizing for assigned projects
Assist in the studies, load calculation, and selection of equipment to fit the project design
Identify issues with designs and communicate issues with senior designers and engineers as they arise
Attend project update meetings with both clients and team members
Assist the design team in the coordination with external and internal contacts such as owners, architects, MEP disciplines, and CADD designers
Perform collision changes in Navisworks as collisions are identified by the design team
Visually review plans for defects in design work
Plan work and perform tasks in accordance with the man‑hour budget
Communicate with team members, project managers, other disciplines, and outside vendors to obtain necessary information on drawings
Assist in data collection and/or field verification
Assist with on‑site observations during construction and coordinate design requirements with contractors and equipment suppliers under the direction of senior design staff
Assist the design team in the process of putting a set of drawings into an organized package
Assist with the upkeep of project design and construction files
Learn to review shop drawings, record changes, and keep all disciplines informed of details and schedules
Maintain a continued focus on keeping up with code requirements, design software, and other industry trends
Assist in the training and mentoring of team members
Qualifications
Two‑year technical degree in an applicable discipline plus three years applicable experience OR five years applicable experience
Capable of reading and interpreting plans from other disciplines (e.g., architectural, structural, civil, plumbing, electrical, mechanical)
Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, and discipline specific engineering software (TRACE, HASS, and SKM)
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Knowledge of construction terminology
Knowledge of basic math
Knowledge of building design specifications
General knowledge of engineering theories and methodologies
General knowledge of applicable engineering disciplines
