BLACK SOX SCULPTURE PROJECT DEADLINE EXTENDED

Saturday, January 3, 2026 @ MIDNIGHT Recording of artist info session. On behalf of Parks & People, South Baltimore Gateway Partnership (SBGP), and Maryland Art Place (MAP), we are offering an exciting opportunity to Baltimore regional artists working in large-scale sculpture to create artworks of historical Baltimore Black Sox baseball players. The sculptures will be placed within a larger $30 million public park on the Middle Branch of the Patapsco River in the Westport neighborhood. Figurative Work:
The Baltimore Black Sox Sculpture Project (BSSP) emphasizes the need for lifelike, figurative sculptures that authentically represent Black individuals in public art—addressing a historic imbalance where such representation has been largely reserved for white figures in the U.S. WHO IS QUALIFIED TO APPLY?
Artist actively working in Maryland, Virginia, DC, Pennsylvania, and Delaware with experience in producing large-scale, public art sculptures. APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
One paragraph of interest One paragraph bio CV or resume 10 images of past work examples Artists must have experience working with large-scale public art. Shortlisted artists will be invited to make a full application to include sketches or mock-ups. $500 honorariums will be provided for this work. Selected artists should anticipate working together as the project develops. Artist teams are eligible to apply in addition to individual artists. TIMELINE
