Children's Theatre Company
The Phipps Center for the Arts is seeking an enthusiastic, experienced Ceramics Teaching Artist to lead wheel-throwing and handbuilding classes, clay workshops for youth and adult students and Summer Arts Camp. Ideal candidate will teach one adult class per 8-week session (fall, winter, spring), multiple one-day workshops and some weeks during our Summer Arts Camp. Share your skills, grow your teaching practice, and help students of all ages explore the joy of clay.

Salary:
$32/hour, variable but approximately 3-5 hours per week with potentially more in the summer
Responsibilities:
Teach pottery classes on the wheel, handbuilding technique classes, and themed workshops
Develop, plan and implement ceramics curriculum
Work with students of all ages, including kids, teens, and adults
Demonstrate a knowledge of wheel thrown and hand-built clay construction, glazing and firing
Provide hands-on demonstrations for students
Foster a safe, inclusive, and encouraging classroom environment
Assist with studio setup, cleanup, and basic kiln loading as needed
Collaborate with the Ceramics Studio Manager to ensure classes run smoothly
Provide constructive feedback to students and encourage skill development
Qualifications:
Degree and/or experience in ceramic arts or related field
Experience teaching ceramics in a classroom or workshop setting
Proficiency in wheel throwing and handbuilding techniques
Familiarity with Lockerbie-style kickwheels
Strong classroom management and communication skills
Passion for mentoring students and creating a positive learning experience
Experience with kiln loading a plus
