Position Summary
We are seeking a Drafter III / Senior Steel Detailer with advanced skills in AutoCAD, MBS (Metal Building Software), and structural steel drafting. This role is responsible for producing accurate drawings and fabrication instructions for pre‑engineered metal buildings (PEMB), including anchor rod, permit, shop, and erection drawings.
The Drafter III will manage higher‑complexity projects (up to Class 7) with minimal supervision and will eventually play a leadership role by mentoring junior drafters and checking their work. Success in this role requires expertise in steel detailing, fabrication drawings, and PEMB construction methods.
Key Responsibilities
Produce timely and accurate shop drawings, erection drawings, DXF files, and bills of materials (BOMs) for pre‑engineered metal buildings (PEMB).
Generate detailed designs for frames, purlins, girts, bracing, trim, and panels in accordance with company standards.
Manage complexity level 4–7 projects from start to finish with little supervision.
Review, check, and mentor the work of Drafter I–II team members to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards.
Interpret architectural drawings, structural drawings, and engineering specifications for PEMB projects.
Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and shop personnel to resolve design issues and improve constructability.
Provide technical support and documentation for field or fabrication problem‑solving.
Contribute to drafting standards, workflow improvements.
Qualifications Required Skills & Qualifications
Strong knowledge of pre‑engineered metal building systems (PEMB) and structural steel detailing.
Must be able to independently complete complexity levels 1–3 and accurately detail complexity 4–7.
3+ years of AutoCAD (or other 3D modeling software) experience.
2+ years of MBS (Metal Building Software) experience.
Proficiency in generating fabrication drawings, erection drawings, and bills of materials.
Ability to review and check work of junior drafters.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Strong organizational and multitasking skills; able to manage multiple concurrent projects.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced MBS expertise.
Familiarity with ERP systems (Global Shop Solutions preferred).
Knowledge of metal building fabrication and erection processes.
