The Opportunity This limited‑term position will support daily operations and customer service at McCabe Library during the Spring 2026 semester (35 hours per week). The specialist will be the sole staff member on duty Saturday and Sunday mornings and will work 5 days per week with a flexible off day of either Tuesday/Wednesday or Wednesday/Thursday.

Typical Schedule Sun: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm Mon: 8:30 am – 4:30 pm Tue: 8:30 am – 4:30 pm or off (if chose to work Thu) Wed: off Thu: 8:30 am – 4:30 pm or off (if chose to work Tue) Fri: 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm Sat: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

Responsibilities

Student Supervision (50%)

Assign tasks and supervise student employees; train them in library catalog, software, and general library knowledge.

Provide regular informal feedback and report serious issues to the department head.

Provide a range of services to the campus community and external clientele, facilitating access to library materials in accordance with policy.

Responsible for opening and/or closing the library with the assistance of student workers.

Assist patrons in using public technology, the wireless network, and other equipment; perform initial troubleshooting.

Deliver exceptional customer service, reconciling patron disputes while balancing library policies and patron satisfaction.

Facilitate equal access to services, equipment, and collections for patrons under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Maintain accurate patron data in Alma (Tripod).

Stacks Maintenance (5%)

Coordinate stacks maintenance processes and shelve collections according to classification system.

Identify materials needing repair, replacement, or restricted access.

Track and resolve TriCollege requests, lost materials, recalls, and paging errors.

Facility Management & Security (5%)

Support specialized equipment such as public computers, scanners, printers, and video equipment.

Place service requests with Facilities and Public Safety regarding building malfunctions.

Ensure a safe and secure library environment; contact Public Safety for behaviors or emergencies.

Exercise judgment to mitigate potential risks within own capacity.

Supervisory Responsibilities In addition to responsibilities listed above, the specialist will provide input into departmental policies and ensure their implementation.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Alma integrated library system or other DBMS.

Experience working in an academic setting.

Supervisory experience.

Compensation The market range for this position is $25.00–$29.00 per hour. The salary offered will be determined by experience, education, departmental budget, and internal equity considerations.
