The role of Senior Broadcast Engineer – Game Production will provide engineering solutions and support for the NBA’s live production and streaming operations. This role will play a critical part in the design and implementation of broadcast systems across NBA, partner studio, remote, and digital platforms. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in modern transmission workflows, live production environments, streaming platforms, and IP-based broadcast infrastructure. Combined with the ability to implement creative engineering solutions under pressure, this role will collaborate effectively across production, engineering, and digital media teams to provide high reliability broadcast solutions.
Responsibilities
Design, implement, and commission broadcast systems for use in live entertainment environments with a focus on reliability, innovation, and creative problem solving.
Engage with vendors and technology partners to develop systems design and strategies.
Understands and refines complex workflows, routing structures, and system configurations.
Leverages APIs to design alternative workflows and optimize operational efficiency.
Assist in the technical support and management of the NBA’s acquisition and distribution infrastructure.
Perform on-call, on-site remote emergency troubleshooting and repairs.
Qualifications
4–7 years of technical engineering experience in live broadcast, sports production, or streaming operations.
College degree in Communications/Engineering or related field required.
Hands‑on experience with common broadcast systems including replay and live playout servers, intercom, encode and decode devices, routers, standard networking, and NMS systems.
Strong knowledge of live production workflows, including replay, highlights, and content distribution.
Familiarity with streaming technologies (encoders, transcoders, etc.).
Knowledge of broadcast IP standards (AES67, SMPTE ST 2110, Dante).
Strong troubleshooting skills across video, audio, and IP networking environments including the use of computer‑aided design software (AutoCAD).
Experience with custom developed software, scripting, and programming including experience in Python, Reflex, and C.
Ability to work effectively in high‑pressure, live production environments.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and documentation skills.
Flexibility to work nights, and weekends.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively under tight deadlines.
