The Mechanical Engineering Manager / Principal Account Manager is a dual‑role leadership position responsible for both technical execution and customer growth. This role combines hands‑on mechanical engineering leadership with ownership of select customer accounts. The individual will lead mechanical design and engineering efforts while also serving as the primary relationship owner for assigned accounts, driving new opportunities, quoting work, closing sales, and managing projects through completion.
This role is foundational to Shamrock’s growth strategy. The position allows the owner to introduce new customer relationships, transition them into a repeatable project flow, and hand off long‑term account ownership while maintaining a consistent Shamrock customer experience.
Core Responsibilities Mechanical Engineering Leadership (Primary Role)
Lead mechanical design and engineering activities for assigned projects from concept through release.
Perform and oversee detailed mechanical design, drawing creation and release, and design reviews per the Shamrock Team Concept.
Ensure mechanical designs meet customer requirements, safety standards, and manufacturability and serviceability expectations.
Participate in internal design reviews, build reviews, and acceptance demonstrations.
Mentor mechanical designers and engineers as the department grows.
Work cross‑functionally with Controls, Manufacturing, and Project Management to ensure seamless execution.
Account Management & Business Development (Secondary but Strategic Role)
Serve as
Principal Account Manager
for assigned customer accounts.
Build and maintain strong long‑term customer relationships.
Actively identify new automation opportunities, retrofit, upgrade, and lifecycle support opportunities.
Conduct customer visits, technical discussions, and discovery meetings.
Lead technical sales efforts within assigned accounts, including coordination with estimating and quoting teams.
Support closing of new projects and transition them into execution.
Maintain continuity with customers across multiple projects to create a consistent “Shamrock experience.”
Project Ownership & Execution
For projects tied to assigned accounts, serve as technical lead, mechanical engineering lead, and in some cases project manager (depending on project size).
Introduce customers to the Shamrock Team Concept and project flow.
Ensure projects follow Shamrock’s standardized process.
Maintain clear communication with customers throughout project execution.
Ensure scope, schedule, and expectations are managed proactively.
Compensation Structure (High‑Level)
Base salary
tied to Mechanical Engineering Manager responsibilities.
Incentive / commission component
based on sales generated within assigned accounts and growth of those accounts year over year.
Incentives apply to revenue above and beyond baseline engineering responsibilities.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
On‑time completion of mechanical design milestones.
Quality of released designs (rework rate, build issues).
Successful design reviews and acceptance outcomes.
Team feedback and cross‑department collaboration effectiveness.
Revenue growth within assigned accounts.
Number of new opportunities identified per account.
Conversion rate of quoted opportunities.
Total booked sales attributed to managed accounts.
Customer Experience
Customer satisfaction and repeat business.
Smooth handoff and execution of consecutive projects.
Strength of long‑term customer relationships.
Required Qualifications
Mechanical Engineering background with experience in:
Strong communication and customer‑facing skills.
Ability to balance technical execution with relationship management.
Comfortable owning both design details and high‑level customer discussions.
