Freelance Associate Technical Accessory Designer
Our client is working on a full-time Freelance Associate Technical Accessory Designer role with a top company with a focus on licensed accessories (handbags and SLGs) in NYC. The role requires 4 days onsite and 1 remote in midtown office. It combines design and technical design, and is a short-term contract that may lead to a longer-term role.
Pay rate is approximately $33-37 an hour based on experience.
Responsibilities
The Designer/technical designer will work directly with Design and cross‑functional teams to execute vision while achieving impeccable fit, construction and design aesthetics.
Partner with creative design team to achieve aesthetic while adhering to a production time and action calendar.
Collaborate with the Design Director and cross‑functional partners to land on appropriate fit and functional intent for each product of handbag and Small Leather Goods design.
Manage all technical requirements to develop and execute processes from product development to production.
Create and maintain detailed tech packs including specs, tolerances, grading, detail sketches with construction/stitching and fit evaluation comments.
Provide technical direction, internally and externally, on corrective actions needed to bring samples to brand fit and styling.
Measure and evaluate handbags and SLG from proto sample through TOP samples.
Maintain close partnership with production teams to maintain on‑time delivery throughout the pre‑production process and proactively monitor seasonal workload.
Required Qualifications
Superior organizational skills and excellent communication skills; team oriented.
Handbag experience required.
Ability to multi‑task and meet deadlines; highly detail oriented, meticulous and creative.
Creativity, technical capability and sensibility for merchandising; ability to sketch.
Extensive knowledge of garment construction, pattern making, silhouettes, color ways, sewing techniques, fabrication and trim; familiarity with print design and manufacturing.
Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design.
Few years experience in handbag design.
Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe products, CAD and Mac computers.
