Title:
ECAD Designer Location:
Wilson, North Carolina (On‐site) Citizenship Requirement:
U.S. Citizens only (required for export control/security contract reasons)
About the Role We are seeking an experienced ECAD Designer to join our product development team in Wilson, NC. The successful candidate will be responsible for the electronic computer-aided design (ECAD) aspects of printed circuit board (PCB) and related assemblies, working closely with hardware engineers, manufacturing, and supply chain to turn concepts into producible, reliable hardware. This is a hands‑on design role with a strong focus on manufacturability, documentation, and cross‑functional collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
Create schematics, layout and documentation for rigid, flex, or rigid‑flex printed circuit boards according to engineering and manufacturing requirements.
Work with hardware engineers to define component placement, signal routing, power/ground planes, impedance control, and design for manufacturability (DFM) concerns.
Maintain and update ECAD libraries, templates, and design rules.
Generate fabrication and assembly drawings, BOMs (Bill of Materials), and associated documentation that support manufacturing hand‑off.
Perform design reviews, participate in design verification and review for manufacturability, cost, reliability, and testability.
Collaborate with mechanical engineers to ensure form‑fit‑function alignment, connector interface, enclosure fit, thermal considerations and EMI/EMC design support.
Resolve design issues (layout, routing, signal integrity, power integrity) in conjunction with cross‑functional teams, manufacturing, and external vendors.
Ensure that all designs conform to internal standards, industry best practices, and applicable regulatory, quality and security standards (especially with controlled‑technology hardware).
Track and manage changes (ECRs/ECNs) and maintain accurate revision control of ECAD data.
Mentor/demonstrate best practices to less senior designers (if applicable) and support continuous improvement of ECAD processes and tools.
Required Qualifications
U.S. citizenship (mandatory) – inability to sponsor at this time.
Bachelor’s degree (or Associate’s with significant experience) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, or related discipline.
Proven experience (e.g., 3–7 years) in ECAD/PCB layout/design in a manufacturing or hardware development environment.
Hands‑on experience with ECAD software tools (Altium) including schematic capture and PCB layout.
Strong understanding of PCB fabrication and assembly processes, DFM/DFT/DFX considerations, signal integrity/impedance control, power/ground plane design, routing best practices.
Demonstrated ability to generate accurate documentation: fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, BOMs, quality review documents.
Excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver on schedule.
Effective communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to collaborate in a multi‑discipline team.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in an aerospace, defense, or highly regulated manufacturing environment (higher level of process control, documentation, export control compliance).
Knowledge of high‑speed digital design, mixed‑signal, RF or power electronics (if applicable to product domain).
Familiarity with PLM/EDM systems (e.g., Windchill, Teamcenter) and configuration management of ECAD data.
Prior exposure to manufacturing support, DFM review, vendor interface or supply‑chain collaboration.
Experience mentoring or leading junior designers.
Work Conditions / Additional Info
This is an on‑site position (Wilson, NC) due to manufacturing/hardware‑lab access and security/export control requirements.
Some travel may be required to vendor sites, manufacturing facilities or design review meetings (estimated
Candidate will be required to adhere to export/import compliance and ITAR/EAR related controls if applicable to the product domain.
Standard full‑time position, with benefits (health, retirement, PTO, etc.). Salary to be commensurate with experience; bonus or incentive program may be included.
Company Culture & Why Join Us
Join a team that values precision, innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Opportunity to work on tangible hardware from concept to production, see your designs manufactured, shipped and performing in the field.
A supportive environment where design engineers interface directly with manufacturing, supply chain, mechanical and test teams — your voice matters.
Location in Wilson, NC offers a lower‑cost area with access to hardware manufacturing talent and quality of life benefits.
