911 Communications Center Supervisor – County of Brown Join to apply for the 911 Communications Center Supervisor role at County of Brown.

Responsibilities

Supervises, coordinates, plans, schedules, and directs the activities of staff for the countywide emergency communications center and its facility.

Serves as the supervisory level liaison with client agency staff, maintaining department records and responding to public inquiries and complaints.

Provides training, evaluates performance, and disciplines staff as appropriate.

Ensures compliance with department policies and procedures, and facilitates smooth day‑to‑day operations of the communications center.

Operates police teletype and maintains accurate records of activity and performance.

Composes, types, and edits correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other material requiring judgment regarding content, accuracy, and completeness.

Acts as the validation officer for department records submitted to the Crime Information Bureau and responds to records requests from the District Attorney, Brown County courts, and other external agencies.

Assists in developing, recommending, and modifying policies and procedures for the Communications Center, and provides staff support with inquiries and complaints.

Serves as liaison between center operations and supervisory staff of client agencies, resolving complaints and assisting in operational procedure changes.

Maintains inventories of communications facility equipment and consumables; coordinates supply needs and vendors; monitors performance testing of electronic and mechanical equipment.

Provides input on equipment purchase, repair, modification, and department expansion needs.

Monitors safety conditions, maintains security of the communications center, and operates radio transmitters in accordance with FCC rules and regulations.

Investigates and reports staff violations and unauthorized information releases, ensuring overall confidentiality of information.

Participates in supervisors' meetings, coordinates job‑related training sessions and seminars, leads staff meetings and shift briefings.

Testifies at adjudication hearings, serves as an employer representative in worker disputes and arbitration, and performs telecommunicator duties when personnel are unavailable.

Maintains keyholder lists in CAD, communicates with cell phone providers and state/county agencies regarding incidents and hazards.

Performs related functions as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge of all functions of the Public Safety Communications Department.

Proficient in using computers and required software.

Understanding of radio and computer system design and operational concepts.

Knowledge of leadership, supervisory, and personnel management techniques.

Familiarity with office and records management practices.

Ability to supervise, assign, schedule, train, and evaluate staff performance.

Capability to handle stressful, difficult situations professionally and rationally.

Ability to exercise independent judgment and make decisions in accordance with policies, procedures, and regulations.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, officials, and the public.

Problem‑solving ability and aptitude for learning and applying specialized departmental knowledge.

Understanding and interpretation of the union collective bargaining agreement.

Availability to work the required hours of the position.
