This part‑time, at‑will position is exempt from classified service and requires a varied schedule that includes nights, holidays, and weekends. The incumbent will be on‑call as needed to cover city events.
Under general supervision, the Senior Video Technician II will perform a variety of technical duties including live and taped video production for city programs, meetings and events. Responsibilities include camera operation, non‑linear editing, writing for productions and related duties as assigned.
Essential Job Functions Operate video production equipment, including cameras, camera support equipment, audio and lighting, video switchers, routers, teleprompters, recording devices, program scheduling and playback equipment, and video editing and graphics systems.
Perform as producer, co‑producer, director, writer, editor and/or talent for various projects.
Coordinate with elected officials, city departments and the public for special programming and requests.
Schedule times, reserve locations, and secure talent for production.
Support administrative functions of the division and perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Knowledge
Video production theory and practices
Editing systems and production equipment
Computers and associated software used in video production
Skills
Directing the development and production of cable television programs
Analyzing technical problems and implementing effective corrective action
Developing and implementing effective program procedures
Researching and developing program ideas and concepts
Utilizing public‑relations techniques in responding to inquiries and complaints
Training, evaluating, and motivating employees, volunteers, and students
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, elected officials, other city departments, and the public
Experience
Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in television or video production that includes post‑production editing. Experience editing with Adobe Premiere Pro is highly desirable.
Education
Associate of Arts degree.
License
Valid California driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
Benefits Non‑represented part‑time, hourly positions do not qualify for city benefits except as required by law. Employees are enrolled in Social Security upon hire. Hourly employees may not exceed 999 hours in a fiscal year basis (July 1 through June 30) unless authorized. There are no rights to employment and employment may end with or without cause or advance notice.
