Job Summary
Grant Writer will conduct prospect research, create, and assemble all aspects of grant requests; represent the health center at internal and external grant presentations; and maintain a calendar of submissions and other deadlines. The position is also responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting data on the performance of program activities funded by the grant in collaboration with Grant Accountants to prepare timely and accurate reports for all existing grant‑funded projects. Grant Writer will help the department stay compliant with regulators by keeping departmental policies and procedures relevant and current. This position will work closely with the Grants Manager.
Pay & Benefits
Salary range: $60,000 – $75,000 per year, based on experience. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, a flexible spending account, a 401(k), disability insurance paid for by Tepeyac, nine paid holidays, four weeks of vacation, and six days of sick leave each year.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Research funding opportunities that align with short‑term and long‑term funding needs and goals of the health center; goal is to expand funding base.
- Persuasively communicate the organization’s mission and programs to potential funders.
- Present potential grants/funding opportunities to executive and key management staff.
- Conduct the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to federal, state, local, and foundation funding sources.
- Coordinate grants proposal meetings.
- Maintain a calendar of submissions and other deadlines to ensure timely submission of letters of inquiry, proposal deadlines, and reports.
- Ensure health center compliance with all grant requirements, including program deliverables.
- Ensure all financial policies and procedures are current and accurate for auditors and reviewers.
- Prioritize projects to move multiple projects in a timely manner, meeting deadlines and managing supplemental material required for proposals and reports.
- Write grant applications and reports that accurately reflect organizational plans, actions, and results.
- Support the Grants Manager as they report data on grant performance.
- Collaborate with staff, coordinating data, narrative, and other information needed to support applications and grants.
- Develop knowledge of institutional history and programs.
- Maintain current records, including grant tracking and reporting.

- Attend required internal meetings, trainings, and events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education And Experience
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to craft a written argument.
- Ability to research evidence to support an argument.
- Understanding of quality metrics in healthcare or ability to learn quickly.
- Familiarity with reputable sources such as CDC, PEW, Brookings, Urban Institute, etc.
- Ability to integrate data and statistics into an argument.
- Strong storytelling skills.
- Ability to copy‑edit and master high‑level grammar.
- Ability to prospect for new grants and familiarity with funders.
- Ability to interview key internal stakeholders and translate their thoughts into a grant narrative.
- Ability to articulate budget information in writing.
- Ability to meet deadlines while pulling information from multiple people and sources.
Good To Have
- Experience with NXT or other grants database management.
- Interest in attending local funder events and representing Tepeyac.
- Interest in writing blog posts for Tepeyac’s website during lulls between grants.
