The Senior Attraction Designer leads the design, development, and documentation of the ride system and technical show elements primarily utilizing 3D modeling and animation as a design and coordination tool. They lead the development of virtual attraction models, ride and show animation, creative and timing animatics, scene studies, renders, plans, and sections depicting design and art direction for all ride, show and scenic components. They integrate show, facility, equipment, and elements into the overall creative environment, manage coordination, and produce multiple technical and creative approaches to meet critical design criteria such as guest experience, theoretical hourly capacity, show timing, vehicle spacing, etc. They utilize 3ds Max, Maya, Unreal, AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, and other tools to model, draw, and draft dimensional, scale drawings and models detailing design intent and integration.
Responsibilities
- Conceive, develop and iterate ride and show design elements using 3D modeling, animation, and 2D CAD to communicate creative intent through sketches, renderings, animatics, sections, plans, and more.
- Manage and design creative and technical development of ride and show elements focusing on timing, sightlines, and scale through various phases of development.
- Develop and manage the coordinated virtual attraction model detailing synchronized ride & show elements such as ride paths, vehicles, scenery, media, lighting, special effects, animated figures, props, and more.
- Create presentation animatics, including overall creative animatic, timing animatic, coordination animatic, sizzle reels, and scene studies.
- Participate in design, cost, schedule, and technical reviews, and develop creative and feasible solutions to integrate elements into a themed environment.
- Mentor, guide, and train staff on career goals and technical skills, motivate staff, build bench strength, and lead communication of job expectations and policies.
- Ensure adherence to Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities, following UDX policy, procedures, and training.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Prior theme park attraction design experience required.
- Creative, innovative, organized thinker with strong technical and artistic ability using show set/scenic design, drafting, 3D modeling, architectural design, or similar tools.
- Proficiency in 3D modeling software such as 3ds Max, Maya, with working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred (Architecture, Interior Design, Fine Arts, Design, Theater, Graphics, Computer Animation, etc.).
Experience
6+ years design experience for themed entertainment, theme parks, or related industries; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
