General Summary & Scope

The Specialty Artist - MAC is responsible for maximizing sales in the MAC brand (including color cosmetics, skincare, and fragrance) by engaging guests to determine their individual needs, assisting guests in the selection and purchase of merchandise, and maintaining overall store standards, including cleanliness and replenishment. They represent the image, products, and culture of Ulta Beauty and the MAC brand to the Ulta Beauty guest and support the Experience Manager (EM) through performance, people, and process.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Performance

• Meet or exceed MAC brand sales and service goals and contribute to the store’s retail and service sales, guest loyalty, omni‑channel, and retail shrink goals.
• Build and maintain strong customer relationships, maintaining contact with a growing preferred guest list and following up on inquiries.
• Ensure each guest receives exceptional service by greeting, engaging, personalizing service, offering samples, and recommending complementary products and/or services.
• Conduct personalized, professional‑caliber makeup demonstrations, applications, lessons; skincare analyses; and product demonstrations with guests to MAC and Ulta Beauty brand standards.
• Study and practice the Skill Certification requirements and complete as many skill sets as appropriate within the specified time frame.
• Stay informed about promotions and marketing initiatives within the brand and throughout the Ulta Beauty store.
• Book appointments for and support services and in‑store events that deliver an unrivaled guest experience while achieving sales goals.
• Stay informed on new and existing industry trends, products, and services, and be knowledgeable about their ingredients and benefits.
• Maintain prompt, regular attendance.

People

• Contribute to an inclusive environment that supports teammates, peers, and the internal and external guests served.
• Share the benefits of the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app.
• Maintain and update an active clientele portfolio for MAC brand sales.
• Serve as an Ulta Beauty and MAC brand ambassador with all store associates, brand partners, and guests by sharing product knowledge, makeup techniques, trends, and MAC programs and philosophies.
• Maintain strong relationships with MAC brand partners through required trainings and in‑store events.
• Regularly participate in ongoing brand and category education to enable professional development and drive performance.
• Collaborate with managers and associates to grow the business.

Process

• Be knowledgeable of and ensure adherence to Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
• Adhere to the Ulta Beauty and MAC brand dress code and wear brand assets as directed.
• Drive sales by keeping assigned work area replenished, signed, and faced and ensuring testers are available and compliant with hygiene standards.
• Maintain outstanding store and MAC operational standards, participating in the MAC recycling program and keeping the MAC brand area clean, including salesfloor, restrooms, cashwrap, backroom, and break area.
• Participate in merchandise resets, planograms, marketing displays, inventory procedures, and processing shipments using Ulta Beauty and MAC technology.
• Protect company assets by following loss prevention best practices while providing exceptional guest service.
• Execute other operational tasks as directed.

Job Qualifications

Education

• High school diploma preferred.
• Cosmetology or demonstrator license required by state law.

Experience

• Cosmetics artistry experience preferred.

Skills

• Demonstrates significant competency in sales, products, and service.
• Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to positively and proactively handle guest concerns and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Special Position Requirements

• Work a flexible schedule that includes days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Attend brand‑sponsored trainings.

Working Conditions

• Frequent mobility during shift.
• Frequent standing, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, and twisting during shift.
• Continuous lifting and/or moving up to 10 lbs during shift.
• Continuous coordination and manipulation of objects during shift.

The pay range for this position is $17.00–$25.50 / Hour. Exact pay will be based on relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, level, shift, geographic location, and business needs. Eligible associates may also earn overtime pay as required by law. Full‑time positions are eligible for paid time off, health, dental, vision, life, and disability benefits.
