Job Overview

PHI Health provides top‑tier emergency medical services with unmatched speed and efficiency. As a Communications Specialist, you will collaborate with industry experts to enhance services, expand reach, and support the seamless operation of our advanced fleet.

Responsibilities

  • Assimilate information to make quality decisions while performing a wide range of specialized functions and complex communication services (requests for transport, assessment and triage of multiple incoming requests, and radio communications with aircraft).
  • Maintain effective communication with crew members (medical and aviation) and aircraft, using a complex statewide, multi‑channel radio system and performing flight following procedures.
  • Document accurate detailed medical information regarding patient condition and all transport activities; coordinate national and international medical transports.
  • Input flight and ground transport information into the network database, ensuring compliance with FAA Part 135 and PHI Air Medical policies.
  • Build positive relationships with referring and receiving facilities and pre‑hospital agencies to ensure a safe, coordinated response.
  • Implement notification procedures for incidents, accidents, or emergencies involving personnel.
  • Attend departmental staff meetings and continuing education meetings.
  • Receive and process long‑distance air medical transport quote requests, calculate pricing, and educate callers on services.
  • Initiate front‑end billing for quoted patient accounts and assist with follow‑up on accounts.
  • Provide outbound follow‑up calls to requestors regarding quote status; identify and fill backhaul flight legs; keep transplant patient files current.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • EMS and/or air medical communications experience preferred; experience in public relations, customer service, marketing, sales, or healthcare billing/insurance preferred.
  • Medical terminology knowledge preferred.
  • Computer literacy with proficiency in Word and Excel; ability to learn custom software.
  • Excellent customer service skills; ability to remain calm, think clearly, and make decisions under pressure.
  • Must pass pre‑placement drug screening and background check.
  • Position is safety‑sensitive for the Arizona Medical Marijuana Act.

Training Requirements

  • Successful completion of Communication Specialist Academy.
  • PHI New Hire Orientation Classes.
  • PHI Destination Zero.
  • Successful completion of King County Emergency Medical Dispatcher Certification Program.
  • Yearly recurrent training courses (HIPAA, Code of Conduct, etc.).
