Job Title: Marketing Communication Specialist
Location: Campus, Salt Lake City, UT
Pay: $47,000 – $54,000
Standard Hours: 40 hrs per week (8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday – Friday) with occasional outside‑hour availability.
Shift: Day; Hybrid schedule (2–3 in‑office days per week).
Department: Family & Preventive Medicine (DFPM), University of Utah.

Job Summary
The Department of Family & Preventive Medicine seeks a motivated, creative, and organized individual to fill the Marketing & Communications Specialist role. The specialist supports the department’s communications and marketing efforts across strategic, creative, technical, and administrative domains, contributing to internal and external communications, content development, event support, and digital platforms.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to development and implementation of marketing and communications plans for both internal and external audiences.
- Write and edit content for news stories, press releases, and newsletters.
- Create, schedule, and publish social media content across platforms using best practices and creative approaches.
- Maintain and update website content using web content management systems.
- Support internal communication efforts for employee‑facing channels.
- Assist with planning and logistics for department events, including promotional materials, photography, and coordination.
- Maintain records and archives of communications assets.
- Provide administrative support for communication operations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience.
- Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field, plus 2 years of directly related work experience (or a Master’s + 2 years, or 4 years of experience).
- Preferred: Knowledge of AP style and editorial standards; familiarity with graphic design tools; experience with HTML and web content management systems.
- Preferred: Ability to submit two writing samples: one news‑style story and one social media post.
