Responsibilities
- Operate a computer‑aided dispatch (CAD) system and monitor the progress of calls and dispatch units to SJMHS Hospital facilities (Chelsea, Livingston, Brighton, Canton, and Ann Arbor). Log unit arrival and completion times, and add appropriate notes and dispositions.
- Interview callers to obtain preliminary reports of incidents (criminal activity, fire, medical emergencies, etc.) and gather sufficient information to properly respond and dispatch appropriate assistance.
- Provide assistance to security units in the field by delivering information via name checks, I‑Track, employee ID, parking permits, department managers, and facilitate inter‑departmental communication between officers and hospital departments.
- Respond to natural and other disaster alerts, determine and contact appropriate personnel for response, including emergency incident command activation.
- Simultaneously perform multiple tasks while receiving numerous audio and visual sources (channels, talk groups, monitors, etc.) and ensure all tasks are completed at a proficient level.
- Monitor, dispatch, notify, and document all alarms associated with cardiac arrest, patient/employee injuries, Hugs, Temp Track, passports, fire, SJMHS panic alarms, building intrusion alarms, and emergency 911 prep radio alarms across various locations.
- Evaluate security dispatch calls to identify conduct of persons/patients/colleagues that may indicate dangerous practices or violations of SJMHS policy and Michigan law.
- Monitor digital CCTV across hospitals (Brighton, Livingston, Canton, Chelsea, Ann Arbor) for criminal activity, suspicious circumstances or persons, and unauthorized entry; dispatch security police response when required.
- Monitor 221 Temp Track refrigerator alarms, notify nursing management, coordinate response, and document incidents electronically.
- Monitor, evaluate, and dispatch over 800 Lennel System daily alarms (panic, unauthorized entry, intrusion, restricted access).
- Act as liaison between Washtenaw County Civil Parking Citation and St. Joseph Mercy Health Parking (enter violation info, prepare for court adjudication).
- Receive and respond to the E‑911 system for all emergencies reported by patients, visitors, or employees, ensuring speed, accuracy, and proper response.
- Coordinate and dispatch calls for service to eight reception service departments to ensure delivery of customer service, shuttle service, and patient care.
- Draft, maintain, and file daily radio logs, trespass notifications, daily briefings, code‑green incidents, and other security‑related documents.
- Maintain good rapport and cooperative relationships with internal/external departments, partners, and the community; identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.
- Keep confidential all information regarding patients, physicians, employees, and visitors; share only with appropriate personnel in private settings.
- Conduct behavior in accordance with the values, mission, and code of conduct of St. Joseph Mercy Health System and/or Trinity Health.
- Assume responsibility for job duties to ensure personal and coworker safety and report hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.
- Maintain a working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, Trinity Health standards of conduct, organizational integrity program, and security police policies and procedures.
- Provide pager exchange as needed.
Education, Experience, and Licensure
- High school education or GED equivalent.
- Previous call center, operator console and/or security dispatch experience preferred; experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
- 2‑3 years of computer experience; familiarity with Windows, Microsoft Office, Hugs, Temp Track a plus.
- Demonstrated dependability and flexibility in scheduling.

- Speak clearly with a pleasant voice using proper English grammar.
- Knowledge of health system locations, campuses, departments, and staff.
