Job Summary

Passionate, energetic, and creative. Assist in the design and development of projects, produce presentation materials, and support the production and documentation of construction documents.

Location & Working Arrangement

Sacramento, California. Hybrid (office/remote) with three days in the office and flexible hours: able to work from home on Mondays and Fridays.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate projects with team members and consultants to resolve conflicts and discrepancies.
  • Assist in the development of project interview materials.
  • Contribute to project documentation during all phases.
  • Apply building code concepts including accessibility, occupant loads, exit widths, fire‑rated assemblies, ramps, stairs, and handrails.
  • Demonstrate understanding of basic construction systems such as walls, roofs, doors, and windows.
  • Coordinate design intent through construction documents and construction phases.
  • Assist in material and system selection and development of construction details.
  • Coordinate design intent in the development of outline specifications.
  • Prepare complex plans, elevations, and details under supervisor guidance.
  • Participate in creating working drawings and deliverables for SD, DD, and CD phases.
  • Coordinate with government agencies and utility companies to obtain plan check approvals.
  • Lead and assist in design documentation, including 3‑D CAD modeling, physical models, and material research.
  • Prepare design communication and presentation materials such as sketches, rendered 2‑D/3‑D drawings, perspectives, slide decks, and material boards.
  • Participate in creating documents required by governing agencies.
  • Estimate hours for assigned tasks and complete work within the agreed‑upon budget.
  • Participate in office design charrettes.
  • Lead and contribute to design awards and publication efforts.
  • Support the design team and ensure design intent is maintained through all phases.
  • Provide regular project status updates to supervisor.
  • Collaborate with lead designer to resolve project issues and integrate design intent into documentation.
  • Support project designer and project manager in supervision and delegation of work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Architectural degree from an accredited university or equivalent proficiency.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in architectural design and document coordination across all phases.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish productive relationships with team members, consultants, and agencies.
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills for coordination with staff, consultants, and vendors.
  • Ability to delegate assignments respectfully.
  • Ability to correspond effectively with consultants regarding Revit files and directives.
  • Advanced proficiency in Revit, including 3‑D modeling in Rhino and Enscape.
  • Ability to manage and resolve Revit‑related issues on HMC’s platform.
  • CAD knowledge including drawing setup, layers, dimensions, blocks, attributes, purge/audit/recover, backups, and viewports.
  • Understanding of architectural and construction industry terminology.
  • Strong design communication skills through sketching and hand drawings.
  • Knowledge of deliverables for all project phases.
  • Thorough understanding of applicable building codes for independent code analysis and compliance.

Compensation

Salary range: $65,591 – $95,254. The final salary offered will vary based on qualifications, education, experience, and the role’s responsibilities.

Additional compensation may include discretionary bonus opportunities, employee stock ownership grants, paid time off, medical insurance, and other benefits.
