Job Description
Assistant or Associate Professor - Fashion Design. Tenure Track position. Determination of rank is dependent upon qualifications. Possibility of Fashion Design Coordinator. Fall 2026.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate courses in the areas of fashion and design.
- Develop curriculum in 2-D / 3-D design basics, apparel design, draping, flat patterns, and fiber and fabric knowledge.
- Establish effective working relationships and actively participate in professional or academic organizations.
- Coordinate and produce Fall Family Weekend Fashion Show, The Women of Radford mini fashion show, and serve as faculty sponsor of the Fashion Society Club.
- Promote student field trips and experiential learning opportunities.
- Leverage working knowledge of CAD programs and Adobe Creative Suite to support instructional activities.
- Possess knowledge and experience with a Fashion Merchandising program and curriculum (a plus).
The NASAD-accredited design program emphasizes creative problem‑solving within the design and business sectors. The department is housed in the College of Visual and Performing Arts and offers a four‑year degree in Design with majors in Interior Design, Fashion Design, Merchandising, and Design Management. The department consists of seven faculty members and around 150 majors. A portfolio review selection process is required for admission into upper‑division courses.
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in Fashion/Apparel or related field required, terminal degree preferred for appointment as an Associate Professor.
Preferred Qualifications
- Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience.
- Areas of expertise should include 2-D / 3-D design basics, apparel design, draping, flat patterns, fiber and fabric knowledge.
- Preferred fashion design teaching expertise at the college or high school level.
- Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships and record of active participation in professional or academic organizations.
- Working knowledge of CAD programs and Adobe Creative Suite is highly desirable.
