Position Overview: Spectrum News invites applications for a Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) role to cover local news in San Luis Obispo, CA. The MMJ will pitch, write, shoot, interview, and edit stories for TV, connected television, and digital platforms.

Base Pay Range: $75,000.00 – $120,000.00 per year, with final compensation based on skills and experience.

The role requires lawful presence in the U.S. without future employment‑based immigration sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Pitch and cover local news stories to senior editors.
• Write clear scripts for TV broadcast.
• Film high‑quality video segments using professional equipment.
• Interview subjects and present information to audiences.
• Edit footage and graphics to produce polished final products for TV, app, and website.
• Collaborate with producers, social media editors, and other newsroom staff to publish content across platforms.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of print or television news reporting experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or a related field; or comparable television work experience.
• Ability to shoot video, edit with industry software, and manage social media.
• Strong on‑camera presence and written communication skills.
• Curiosity, sense of urgency, and willingness to travel with the community.
• Physical ability to lift up to 30 lbs and perform outdoor work in varied weather.
• Availability to work under tight deadlines, different shifts, weekends, holidays, and emergencies.
• Valid driver’s license for authorized driving in the state of residence.

Work Environment

Work inside a climate‑controlled newsroom and outside in various weather conditions, including extreme heat or cold.
