Pay: $76,903.32/yr - $91,258.70/yr

MPL is currently looking for a leader to oversee the operations of the new Imagination Center Library (scheduled to open in September of 2026) and to be part of an innovative public services team. You will support and motivate staff to actively engage the community. You will guide staff to develop sustainable programming that utilizes staff and community expertise. You will build relationships and establish collaborative opportunities guided by Madison Public Library's mission, vision and strategic direction. You will provide direct service to the public and ensure that your staff members embody the high-level of customer service that defines the Madison Public Library.

In your answer, please also describe your proficiency with de‑escalating situations, including any training you have received; experience you have putting these skills into practice; and how you have supported staff in developing their own skills.
Minimum Qualifications
- Four years of experience performing responsible professional library work as a librarian, including experience performing a wide variety of library‑related tasks comparable to tasks performed as a Librarian 2 with the City of Madison.
- Master's degree in library or information science. (December 2025 graduates are welcome to apply)
OR
Four years of experience in applying the following:
- Library science theories, principles, practices and terminology applicable to a public library.
- Automated and manual library systems.
- Professional library reference and collection development strategies and resources.
- Professional library program implementation and development.
- Computer software applicable to the duties of the position.
Familiarity With
- Leadership principles and practices.
