Base Pay Range
$73,760.00/yr - $88,131.00/yr
The Kaukauna Public Library is seeking an Assistant Library Director to help manage the library’s daily operations, direct programming, and help manage library collections. The Assistant Director acts as the direct supervisor of the library in the absence of the Director. The position works a standard workweek of 37.5 hours and is also expected to participate in various meetings and work‑related functions outside of the standard workweek.
What You Will Do
- Assist in recommending and preparing policies and procedures for the library. Act in the director’s absence.
- Supervise and train library support staff.
- Prepare the annual budget and oversee budget lines for programming, collections, and marketing.
- Represent the library publicly to other community institutions and individuals who work with the public.
- Oversee library programming by developing programs for all ages, developing outreach opportunities to public and private schools and other community organizations, and coordinating library marketing.
- Oversee the library’s material collections by developing subject areas and overseeing material selection.
- Prepare monthly reports to the Library Board on library services and program effectiveness.
- Provide assistance to patrons in all aspects of public service.
- Perform other related work as assigned by the Library Director and perform service desk duties when necessary.
What You Will Bring
- Master of Library Science from an American Library Association accredited institution.
- A minimum of five years of professional librarian experience.

- Strong understanding of public library principles, operations, and services.
- Ability to direct, supervise, and evaluate the work of others.
- Strong oral and written communication skills to lead teams and interact with the public.
- Ability to foster collaboration, resolve conflicts, and maintain a positive work environment.
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills to handle multiple tasks and demands effectively.
- Skill in using computer software, managing electronic resources, and troubleshooting technical problems.
- Ten (10) hours of continuing education annually to maintain professional development.
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear, stand, walk, and must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The work environment is generally indoors with a quiet to moderate noise level.
Salary
$73,760 - $88,131, depending on experience.
