Faculty Position Overview
The Department of Information, Library, & Research Sciences (ILRS) at the UNC Greensboro School of Education invites applications for a tenure‑track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. The appointment will begin August 1, 2026 on the main Greensboro campus and will focus on teaching, research, and service. The ILRS offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs, including a nationally ranked Master’s of Library & Information Science.
Responsibilities
- Teach synchronous, online graduate courses, with face‑to‑face opportunities in the undergraduate program.
- Participate in instruction, research, publication, and other scholarly activities.
- Mentor and advise graduate students.
- Provide service to the department, school, university, profession, and community.
Minimum Qualifications
- Earned doctorate in library/information science, education, or related field by the start date of employment (consideration given to candidates who have not yet earned a doctorate but will by the start date).
- Master’s degree in Library & Information Science from an ALA‑accredited program or an equivalent qualification.
- Capacity to teach and mentor at the graduate level.
- A record of, or potential for:
- Active engagement with theories and methodologies shaping the field.
- Development of a program of research and scholarship in a specialty area.
- Instructional expertise in teaching librarianship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Commitment to research and scholarship that advances the needs of diverse communities within the profession, state, and campus.
- Work and leadership experience in information organizations.
- Experience with tools, technologies, and standards for collection development and management across library types.
- Expertise in communicative soft skills and a people‑first approach to teaching and research.
- Working knowledge of social, political, and economic issues shaping information organizations.
