Job Summary

The Multimedia Designer is a member of the marketing team at the School of Information and will lead and execute UMSI’s marketing and visual branding strategy. Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, you will design materials for print, digital, and interactive/experiential media—including promotional, advertising, illustrative designs, infographics, templates, and animations. You will produce basic web pages, email and social media graphics (coding is not required) and may contribute elements such as title sequences and on‑screen graphics for video projects.

Responsibilities

  • Work with UMSI managers, leadership, and staff to gather information and propose best visual solutions with media (print, digital and interactive/experiential items).
  • Develop and present draft concepts, preparing finished copy and art using computer software and equipment.
  • Collaborate with UMSI staff departments and M&C colleagues to develop overall look, feel and branding for major projects with longer‑term impact, including recruitment materials, reports, and visual identity updates.
  • Develop new visual approaches and techniques for all our marketing strategies, including testing out new design ideas and measuring the success of those projects.
  • Oversee part‑time temporary workers providing graphic design assistance.

Required Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in art, design, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign, and Canva.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in graphic art, design or online art and design work in a professional environment, with a portfolio of deployed work.
  • Excellent spelling, grammar and proofreading skills.
  • Must be reliable and responsible.

Modes of Work

This position is hybrid or in‑person, depending on your preference. You will coordinate your schedule with your supervisor in accordance with school policy. You may be required to travel to multiple locations on and off campus. The main office workspace for this position is the Leinweber Computer Science and Information Building. Punctual and regular attendance is required, and you may be expected to work during non‑business hours and on weekends as business demands dictate.

Salary Information

The salary range for this position is $55,000 to $64,000, determined by relevant experience and performance. A salary above the posted range may be offered for an exceptionally qualified candidate, taking into account internal equity and budget. All candidates are encouraged to discuss salary questions to ensure alignment and transparency throughout the recruiting process.
