Position Overview

The Music Program Provider is responsible for designing and delivering fun, engaging, and developmentally appropriate music sessions for our youngest campers in Pre‑K and Grades K–1. Sessions spark joy, encourage movement and rhythm, and introduce foundational musical concepts through singing, instruments, games, and creative exploration.

Schedule & Training

Location: Summer at St. John’s - Camp Chris
Schedule: Monday‑Friday, 8:30am – 4:15pm
Multiple 40‑minute sessions per day, grouped by grade levels.
Training Dates: June 8 – June 15, 2026
Season Dates: June 16 – August 19, 2026

Salary Range

$20 – $25 Per Hour

Responsibilities

  • Early Childhood Music Instruction: Lead interactive 40‑minute music sessions using age‑appropriate methods such as call‑and‑response songs, rhythm games, movement activities, and simple instruments (e.g., shakers, rhythm sticks, tambourines).
  • Developmentally Responsive Teaching: Tailor musical content to the attention spans, motor skills, and energy levels of young children. Prioritize play‑based and sensory‑rich learning experiences.
  • Classroom Management: Create predictable routines and clear behavioral expectations to help campers feel secure and confident. Effectively manage transitions and group behavior.
  • Instrument & Supply Care: Set up and clean up musical instruments and props each day, ensuring everything is safe, sanitized, and ready for use.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Partner with counselors to support camper needs during sessions. Communicate observations or concerns to the Division Leader or Camp Administrator as appropriate.
  • Camp Spirit & Culture: Contribute to a joyful camp environment by using music to support weekly themes, camp events, and morning gatherings. Serve as a positive role model through enthusiasm, patience, and kindness.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience leading music or movement‑based programs with preschool or early elementary‑aged children in a camp, school, daycare, or community setting.
  • Strong singing voice, sense of rhythm, and comfort leading group songs and movement activities.
  • Background in Music Education, Early Childhood Education, or related field preferred.
  • Familiarity with common early childhood songs, fingerplays, and classroom instruments.
  • Ability to manage young groups with warmth, energy, and clarity.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications required (training available if needed).

Physical Requirements

  • Standing/sitting for long periods of time.
  • Bending, lifting, pushing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, stooping.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to reach at and above shoulder height to access higher areas of equipment, etc.
  • Must be capable of adapting to frequent changes in position throughout the workday.
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone.
  • Use of hands and fingers for manipulation, and using computer keyboard, educational tools, play equipment, and perform first aid and CPR.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
