KDKA-TV CBS Pittsburgh is seeking an Assistant News Director to own the day-to-day operations in one of the country’s leading newsrooms in a highly competitive market. Can you help lead first class producing, in-depth coverage, good storytelling, aggressive weather & sports coverage? Are you able to turn it all on a dime when big breaking news hits and own the big story? Are you savvy in the digital space and know how to deliver a “digital first” approach to covering news?
Our Assistant News Director will work directly with reporters to craft well-written and focused reports. They will also work side-by-side with Executive Producers on newscasts to ensure strategic content placement and first-rate newscast production. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Further the environment of good culture and inclusion.
- Manage and schedule staff that produces 70+ hours of local content a week.
- Review daily newscasts and other content for quality control and provide feedback to news staff.
- Excellent news judgment and strong ability to problem-solve.
- Formulate the vision for the way newscasts should appear on-air and manage a team of broadcast professionals in accomplishing that vision.
- Ability to stay focused in breaking news situations.
- Be a consistent leader of content and flexibility in scheduling.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Self-motivated teammate & leader with remarkable people skills to complete the station’s overall news mission.
- Ability to multi-task, coordinate tasks & people, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent broadcast and digital writing skills.
- Champion and encourage digital output on digital/streaming/social platforms.
- Ability to understand local content, how it impacts our community and how to best create this daily.
- Able to use and lead multiple resources to help our brand produce compelling content including video, sound, graphics and talent.
- Take direction and feedback from the News Director and implement the station’s mission for our community.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND REQUIREMENTS
- College Degree in journalism, communications or related field required.
- At least 7 years of newsroom experience, with newsroom management preferred.
- Must be able to work all shifts.
