The Opportunity

We are seeking a Public Relations Senior Account Executive(this is nota business development role) to join our growing team. This is a high‑impact position with significant room for advancement, ideal for an experienced PR professional who thrives in a fast‑paced agency environment and wants to play a meaningful role in building world‑class client programs.

This role is best suited for someone with leadership potential who can deliver strong results. Our ideal candidate would be hands‑on, strategic, and motivated to drive programs forward alongside a dynamic and respected organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Own day‑to‑day client relationships while developing and executing integrated communications strategies
• Deliver consistent, high‑quality earned media results across trade, tech, and national business outlets
• Proactively identify opportunities to position clients within broader industry trends and news cycles through deep sector awareness
• Lead client activity to ensure strategic objectives, timelines, and expectations are met
• Drive client retention through trusted relationships, responsiveness, and exceptional results
• Manage deadlines and workflows across teams (design, editorial, events, etc.)
• Oversee client budgets and ensure accurate tracking and reporting
• Develop all written and digital communications from concept to completion, including press releases, reports, articles, presentations, social media content, and media materials. These are often based on complex technical or scientific topics
• Represent clients and Mercom at meetings, conferences, and industry events
• Coordinate client schedules and media activity during conferences and events
• Play a central role in account team execution, mentoring junior team members and setting a high standard for quality and professionalism
• Support new business initiatives, including proposal development
• Manage comprehensive client reporting (activity reports, media coverage, pipelines, press rooms)
• Actively contribute to building and strengthening the Mercom brand internally and externally

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of PR agency experience required developing and executing communications programs
• Minimum 5 years total communications experience required
• Experience in energy or B2B technology strongly preferred
• Strong understanding of energy and technology trends with the ability to translate complex topics into clear, compelling narratives
• Proven success securing earned media with tech, trade, and national business outlets
• Exceptional writing skills across all forms of corporate and executive communications
• Experience developing strategic, multi‑channel communications plans incorporating digital, print, events, and executive communications
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and work streams simultaneously, including mentoring junior team members
• Results‑oriented mindset with a strong commitment to exceeding client expectations
• Self‑starter with excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive under tight deadlines
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively and diplomatically in a fast‑paced environment
• The ideal candidate would be based in Austin, TX however we are open to considering outstanding candidates based elsewhere.
