The Hill, a division of Nexstar Media Group, is hiring a White House Reporter to cover the Trump administration. The role focuses on covering President Trump’s daily schedule, travel, White House press briefings, and policy actions across the administration.
About the role
The person filling this role will handle spot news stories, regular briefs, and features. It is a fast‑paced environment demanding quick scoops for The Hill’s website, newspaper, newsletters, and other platforms. Candidates should be able to develop sources within Trump’s orbit and produce compelling, clear journalism that explains government actions.
Responsibilities
- Recognize news immediately when it happens and identify trend stories impacting the political scene.
- Write short and longer news briefs and features for The Hill’s website and newspaper.
- Contribute to the Morning Report newsletter and other daily and weekly products.
- Appear on television to discuss complex policies and political fights in a digestible manner.
Skills and Qualifications
- A degree in journalism or a related field.
- Previous reporting experience in a metro or national media environment.
- Good instincts for reader interests and ability to produce error‑free, clean journalism on tight deadlines.
- Basic familiarity with Google Trends, SEO skills, and real‑time analytics (plus).
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation range: $75,000 to $85,000 commensurate with experience and skill level.
Benefits include medical (multiple plans), dental, vision, paid time off, 401(k) with company match, paid parental leave, life insurance, and more. Part‑time employees are eligible for 401(k) and local/state leave plans. Union positions follow the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
