Job Summary / Description
KY3’s investigative team seeks an experienced investigative reporter for an on‑air position. The ideal candidate will research, investigate, and tell compelling stories for live and digital platforms, ask tough questions, confront subjects, and perform quick‑turn investigations.
Duties / Responsibilities
- Dig into complex and important issues.
- Produce enterprise investigative stories daily.
- Interview news subjects to determine facts and credibility.
- Present exciting live reports using current technology.
- Send and follow up on FOIA/Sunshine requests to agencies.
- Write and edit day‑turn content to enhance news coverage across platforms.
- Develop sources within the community to learn about important issues.
- Collaborate with anchors, senior investigative reporters, executive producers, and the news director on special reports.
- Create new and creative digital content and advance the brand on those platforms.
- Organize data and find stories within spreadsheets and databases.
- Demonstrate sound news judgment and collaborate to present stories in the best way.
- Attend and host community events, schools, and service events; meet viewers when needed.
- Be a visual storyteller and perform creative stand‑ups and explanatory live shots.
- Work evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
- Possess or learn broad knowledge of the viewing area (people, places, history).
- Participate in critique, feedback, and training.
- Follow clothing and appearance guidelines.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in journalism or related field.
- Proven track record of successful television stories, especially investigative; non‑entry level.
- Experience using web and social media to promote stories, drive engagement, find sources, research, and perform Facebook live reports for investigative topics.
- At least 3 years of experience as MMJ, reporter, or investigative producer.
- Experience in computer‑assisted reporting, photojournalism, editing, and content management systems.
- Strong written communication skills (clear, concise, conversational). Excellent interview and conversational writing skills.
- Excellent live reporting skills and on‑camera presentation.
- Basic computer knowledge, newsroom software (ENPS), Microsoft applications, and internet use.
- Ability to carry, shoot, and edit video with digital cameras.
- Work independently with limited supervision.
- Meet tight deadlines and perform well under pressure.
- Strong initiative and attention to detail.
- Demonstrate solid news judgment and journalistic ethics.
- Maintain professional and ethical conduct at the station and in the community.
- Maintain positive work atmosphere with co‑workers, supervisors, viewers.
- Stay current with national and local news/weather; know community happenings.
