Design Team Leader – Edward Jones

The Firm Design and Innovation Portfolio is seeking a Design Team Leader to lead cross‑functional teams in the discovery, design, development, and delivery of amazing solutions for complex problems in strategic planning, process improvement, product design, and service delivery. You will become a core part of Design and work with talented teammates to define all aspects of end‑to‑end experiences and design.

What you’ll do

  • Navigate multiple concurrent complex situations to yield a high‑performing team, with little to no guidance from direct leader.
  • Proactively build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and matrix leaders to effectively deliver on prioritized business needs and User Experience objectives.
  • Manage team capacity and align the right team members and right roles to the right work.
  • Apply an experience‑first mindset by reinforcing adherence to internal processes and best practices to support consistent, high‑quality deliverables.
  • Translate business needs and priorities to team through effective communication and applied change management practices.
  • Proactively contribute to a backlog of continuous improvements for User Experience and actively lead one or many efforts to implement process improvements.
  • Drive for, and report on, progress towards department, User Experience, or division objectives.
  • Partner collaboratively with and influence the prioritization of work performed by enabling functions that solves for the greatest needs of the team or User Experience area.
  • Inform User Experience strategy through data and storytelling.
  • Identify and onboard talent to the team with the right skill set, including working with multiple internal teams and third‑party suppliers to secure contractor talent.

What you’ll need

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field of Design, Science, or Engineering (or equivalent discipline e.g., Human Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Instructional Design, Computer Science, Digital or Interactive Media, Communications, Behavioral Science, Psychology, Anthropology).
  • 8+ years of progressive design experience.
  • 6+ years of direct or indirect people leadership experience leading multidisciplinary design teams to advanced levels of collaboration preferred.
  • Advanced skills in designing prototypes and using design tools.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, building relationships at all levels of the organization, and effectively tailoring messaging and approach to multiple audiences.
  • Ability to quickly engage and inspire a diverse, multi‑disciplinary team and lead/contribute to multiple large‑scale efforts concurrently.
  • Expertise in design methodologies and systems thinking.
  • Knowledge of and experimentation with emerging design trends and technology related to one’s discipline.
  • Change agility and comfort operating and flexing in ambiguity.
  • Experience with DevOps methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, etc.) strongly preferred.
  • Experience in leading large enterprise‑wide technology and/or strategic deployments preferred.

Hybrid Location

Candidates that live within a commutable distance from our Tempe, AZ and St. Louis, MO home office locations are expected to work in the office three days per week, with preference for Tuesday through Thursday. While this role is posted as hybrid, if selected and accepted, you may retain your home‑based status. Edward Jones intends in good faith to continue offering the role as home‑based, though future business or regulatory needs may require on‑site work.
