The Department of English at the University of Florida invites applications for a full-time, nine‑month, tenure‑track Assistant Professor position to teach in the BA track and MFA program in the field of creative writing, fiction specialization, effective August 16, 2026. The normal teaching assignment is two courses per semester.

The successful candidate will be expected to: 1) maintain an active writing and publication career, 2) teach four courses per academic year at the undergraduate and graduate level, and mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students, 3) contribute service to the Department, the university, and the profession. Department service includes help with MFA program coordination (e.g., events planning, admissions, student mentoring, curriculum oversight) and engagement with departmental committees and processes.

Program and Location: UF is a major, comprehensive, land‑grant, research university. The MFA program is housed in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Required Qualifications

Candidates for this rank shall hold the highest degree appropriate to their field or possess equivalent qualifications based on professional experience. A book or substantial record of literary works is required.

Preferred Qualifications

• An MFA and/or PhD in Creative Writing is strongly preferred.
• We encourage applications from candidates who write in genres in addition to literary fiction, such as creative nonfiction, screenplays, YA fiction and/or children’s literature, and graphic literature.
• We are also interested in candidates with service or administrative experience.

(3) a statement of teaching goals and practice, and
(4) a writing sample of 15‑20 pages.

The final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts to the Department upon hire. A transcript will not be considered “official” if a designation of “Issued to Student” is visible.
