Job Summary

As a UX Researcher, you will execute user research studies under the guidance of lead and/or senior team members, helping translate user insights into actionable recommendations that improve Caterpillar’s products and services. You’ll collaborate with Expert Operators, Designers, Product Managers, Engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure user needs are at the center of decision-making.

What You Will Do

  • Understand business needs and design appropriate research studies to generate focused insights.
  • Plan and conduct user research (surveys, in-depth interviews, field studies, focus groups, and concept testing) with support from senior researchers.
  • Synthesize real user behavior and feedback into clear, actionable insights and recommendations for design and product teams to improve our product and service features and/or develop new ones.
  • Support research operations: documentation, note-taking, analysis, and stakeholder presentations.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Design, Product, Marketing, Sales, and Data/Analytics teams.
  • Communicate results and opportunities in a clear, concise, and compelling manner to various audiences.
  • Prioritize research opportunities with your manager based on product goals and business needs.

What You Will Have

Creativity: Knowledge of the approaches, tools, and techniques for promoting creative, original thinking and ability to apply it to a variety of business situations.

Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.

Computer Software Industry: Knowledge of computer software industry; ability to understand future products, vendors, technologies, issues, and trends and directions.

Human-Centered Design (HCD): Knowledge of Human-Centered Design model, principle, and concepts; ability to understand the perspective of people who experience a problem, their needs, and provide them with a solution which truly meets their needs effectively.

User Experience (UX) Research: Knowledge of methods, tools and technologies used in UX research; ability to collect and analyze data regarding user behaviors, needs, and attitudes in order to guide product development.

User Experience Design: Knowledge of user experience design tools, techniques and approaches; ability to design applications that are valued, positively perceived and used by clients.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Market Research, Anthropology, Psychology, Sociology, Cognitive Science, Information Science) or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience applying user research in product/service teams; ability to facilitate common methods and produce clear deliverables.

Desirable Qualifications

  • A balanced understanding of strategy, research, and interaction.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, team-oriented, cross-functional environment.
  • Experience conducting customer research in an applied setting.
  • Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative research methods, behavioral analysis, and statistics is preferred.
  • Experience using standard market research tools.
  • Ability to conduct both physical and digital customer research.
  • Excellent working knowledge of principles of experiment design is desired.
  • Good interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to create compelling presentations and convey insights and design solutions through storytelling across all levels.
  • Desirable is flexibility/adaptability (ability to change direction based upon team and stakeholder consensus).
