USA TODAY VP of News – Executive Leadership

Responsibilities
- Editorial Leadership: Oversee news content, ensuring unbiased, transparent, and fair coverage in alignment with USA TODAY NETWORK Principles of Ethical Conduct for Newsrooms.
- Strategy & Innovation: Position USA TODAY as the single strongest source of facts-forward news; develop audience engagement strategies; champion new storytelling formats, data-driven journalism, emerging technologies, and continuous experimentation.
- Team Management: Lead, coach, and develop newsroom leaders; foster a culture of belonging, candor, and journalistic excellence; model ethical decision-making and resilience.
- Quality & Standards: Uphold rigorous accuracy, fairness, ethics; ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements; implement editorial review best practices.
- Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product, technology, audience, and business teams to align newsroom priorities with organizational goals.
- External Relations: Serve as public ambassador; build relationships with industry peers, partners, and the community; champion coverage that reaches underserved audiences.
- Budget & Resource Management: Oversee newsroom budgets, resource allocation, and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of five years in a significant newsroom leadership role with demonstrable success.
- Deep understanding of the First Amendment and a commitment to journalistic independence.
- Experience managing large, diverse teams and complex operations in a high-stakes environment.
- Strong strategic thinking, action bias, decision-making, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to lead change, innovate, and achieve goals in transformative media settings.
- Exceptional interpersonal and emotional intelligence for cross‑functional collaboration.
- Demonstrated track record in recruiting and developing top newsroom talent.
- Commitment to ethics, innovation, and continuous improvement.
