Responsible administrative work supervising and participating in assessment functions.
This position is part of the Civil Service Supervisory Unit Employees Collective Bargaining Agreement represented by the St. Louis County Employees Association.
An employee in this class is responsible for supervising the activities of an assigned functional area of the Assessor’s Department. Duties include appraising complex commercial and/or residential property, instructing and training staff in assessment laws and procedures and reviewing valuations for accuracy and compliance. The work is performed under the direction of assigned supervisory staff.

Carry-push/pull while moving 11 to 20 pounds; Climb stairs; Grasp; Handle; Headset; Clients with Behavioral Challenges; and exposure to slippery surfaces.
RARE:
Carry-push/pull while moving 21 to 100 pounds; Crouch/Squat; Kneel; Stoop/Bend; Twist (waist); and Extended day.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Pass/Fail)
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree AND five (5) years progressively responsible residential or commercial real estate appraisal experience.
Possession of a Minnesota Board of Assessors Certification.
Possession of Income Qualified certification by the Minnesota State Board of Assessors.
Possession of a valid driver's license.
RATING SYSTEM: ORAL ASSESSMENT (Pass/Fail)
Qualified candidates will be scheduled for the oral assessment on January 20, 2026.
If three or fewer applicants qualify for the oral assessment, it may be waived.
Applicants who successfully pass the oral assessment will have their supplemental questions scored.
Supplemental Questions will be 100% of the scoring process:
Points will be awarded based on the applicants answers to supplemental questions 9-13.
Experience beyond ten years may be included on the application for purposes of meeting minimum qualifications or informing the hiring authority of your complete employment history.
