Principal Technical Writer
Location: Washington, DC (within 50 miles)

Job Description Join a team that's shaping the future of IT support. As a Principal Technical Writer, you will operate, maintain, and continuously update a centralized project management repository accessible to government stakeholders, ensuring all enterprise‑level, local‑level project documents, and major deployment activities are accurately captured and readily available.
Your day‑to‑day responsibilities include reviewing, editing, and archiving project documents; managing documentation for major deployment activities; collaborating with project managers, technical teams, and stakeholders to gather, standardize, and format documents; conducting regular audits of the repository for accuracy, compliance, and usability; implementing improvements; and generating reports on repository usage, document completeness, and project visibility.
Qualifications
High School/GED required; Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, Information Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
10+ years of experience in technical writing and documentation management, with a focus on project repositories in enterprise or government settings
Proven expertise operating and maintaining digital repositories for project documents, including hands‑on experience with tools like Microsoft SharePoint or Atlassian Confluence
Active DoD Secret clearance (must be current and transferable)
Strong knowledge of federal documentation and project management standards (e.g., PMBOK, ITIL for knowledge management)
Excellent writing, editing, and organizational skills, with the ability to handle large volumes of technical content under deadlines
Exceptional degree of ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness; applied or developed highly advanced concepts, techniques, and standards; viewed as an expert in the field; often acts independently to uncover and resolve issues associated with long‑range goals and objectives
Preferred Qualifications
Certifications such as Certified Professional Technical Communicator (CPTC) or ITIL 4 Foundation
Experience supporting DoD or large federal enterprises, including classified document handling and deployment activity documentation
Background in project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Jira) for integrating documentation workflows
Familiarity with markup languages (e.g., Markdown, XML) for structured content and version control systems (e.g., Git)
Master’s degree in a relevant field or additional certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+ for secure repository management)
Clearance & Other Requirements
Secret clearance required (must be able to obtain and currently possess)
U.S. Person required; U.S. Citizenship required

Travel: Pay Information Full‑time salary range: $132,000 – $224,400
