Position Overview We are seeking highly skilled and motivated Survey CAD Technicians (Designers) to support our heavy civil construction teams, playing a critical role in supporting survey operations and infrastructure development across key projects in the following states: CO, MT, WY, ND, SD, IA, MN, NE, KS, MO, MS, TN and KY. Working within ProjectWise, AutoCAD, and Trimble Business Center, you will perform essential calculations for survey requests and 3D machine control, ensuring precision and accuracy in field layouts. Your responsibilities include maintaining files for utility locations, potholes, and as-builts, designing layouts, and verifying designer CAD files against Plan PDFs to ensure alignment and quality. Your work directly supports strategic infrastructure initiatives that enhance AI data center capacity, energy reliability, and community resilience.

District Overview Within Kiewit, we operate in the Central and South‑Central regions of the United States, building heavy civil and transportation projects such as highways, airports, mass transit systems, canals, dams, tunnels, and supporting site development for industrial projects like data centers, water treatment facilities, and power plants.

Location Eligible projects are in CO, MT, WY, ND, SD, IA, MN, NM, NE, KS, MO, MS, TN and KY. Candidates must be willing to travel to project sites as needed and visit our district office in Lone Tree, Colorado occasionally for training and meetings. Per diem and trips home are provided when assigned to a project site.

Responsibilities

Previous land/construction survey or engineering experience is a plus.

Proficiency in CAD is required (at least one of the following, all three is a plus):

Trimble Business Center

MicroStation

AutoCAD Civil 3D

Ability to read and interpret construction plans to generate:

Field Layout (lines and points)

Estimates (takeoff for all disciplines)

3D models (surfaces, corridors, and structures)

Knowledge of field survey procedures and equipment; assist in remote support of:

Data Collectors

Machine Control

Able to train in person or remotely in CAD and survey equipment (DCs/Machines) for:

Survey crews

Engineers

Estimators

Must have solid written and verbal communication skills:

Clear communication for remote support

Daily interaction with Estimators, Project management, Survey crews, and Operations crews

Qualifications

3 years’ experience in Construction Survey, Dimensional Control, Industrial Measurement, or a related field, performing related CAD tech functions.

Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry concepts to perform calculations (area, volume, circumference, proportion, percentage).

Dynamic thinker with the desire to lead, motivate and mentor teams.

Self‑starter who sets standards of excellence in leadership, safety, quality, and productivity.

Proficient computer knowledge, including Microsoft Suite.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong work ethic; ability to work individually and as a team; commitment to safety and quality.

Willingness to work 50‑60 hours per week, including weekends (overtime is paid).

Valid driver’s license and readiness to travel regionally; accustomed to outdoor fieldwork in varied terrain and weather.

Regular, reliable attendance and ability to meet deadlines.

Professional communication and effective teamwork with supervisors and colleagues.

Adherence to safety procedures, oral and written instructions, and company policies.

Flexibility to work at various locations and conditions.

Compensation and Benefits Base Compensation: $73,000/yr – $76,000/yr. Compensation is subject to variation based on education, experience, skill set, and location.
