Job Summary The work consists of varied communication and dispatch duties. The high-stress nature of emergency situations contributes to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to dispatch response to calls for service. Success in this position helps ensure students and faculty receive help in emergency and non-emergency situations.

Required Qualifications

High school Diploma or GED equivalent required.

Must be 18 years of age.

Must possess a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.

Must be able to communicate effectively (orally and written).

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with a law enforcement or public safety agency helpful.

Proposed Salary Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to perform work in a professional manner meeting the requirements of a 24‑hour operation that may involve working weekends, and holiday schedules in any weather conditions.

Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Capability of writing comprehensive reports outlining observations and activities during assigned shift.

Ability to use telephone, radio, and computer equipment.

Ability to exhibit a positive attitude when working with supervisors, coworkers, and members of the campus community in order to maintain effective service‑oriented relationships.

Skills

Possess analytical decision‑making skills to identify problems, weigh solutions and recognize alternatives and their implications independently and quickly.

Possess interpersonal skills to interact with the public.

Receives and responds to incoming calls and radio messages.

Provides direction and guidance to callers.

Monitors the electronic alarm systems and fire alarm system on a continuous basis.

Maintains daily log of all activities reported to the department.

Dispatches Campus Police personnel to handle calls for services.

Monitors, records, and downloads video footage.

Utilizes the Georgia Crime Information Center and National Crime Information Center databases to assist police officers in the performance of their duties. Maintains, sorts, and files reports. Maintains a clean and efficient office.

Will be required to work special events such as basketball games, football games and other campus related events.

Performs other job‑related duties as required.

Testing Requirements

Must be able to obtain GCIC certification within six months of hire date.

Must be able operate the emergency notification system upon completion of the OJT training for the system.

Physical Demands The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table and intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, or walking. The employee occasionally lifts light objects and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.

Conditions of Employment

All selected candidates are required to successfully pass a Background Check review prior to starting with Albany State University.

Certain positions may also require the selected candidate to submit to or have:

a credit check completed for "Positions of Trust" and/or approved departmental purchase card usage

a motor vehicle report for positions that require driving an Albany State University vehicle

a successful pre‑employment drug test
