Assistant Director of Enrollment Communication

The Assistant Director will lead the Enrollment Communications team in developing, executing, and evaluating strategic communications with prospective students, high school counselors, and community-based organizations through email, print, web, and other media. The position emphasizes best practices for reaching diverse student populations and prioritizes the student experience with exceptional customer service.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of combined experience in admissions, enrollment management, copy writing or technical writing, management, training, marketing or similar fields
  • Experience with Slate or similar CRM
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and Internet-based collaboration tools
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Effective problem solving and project management skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in higher education and enrollment management/admissions

Essential Functions

Content Development and Execution (55%)

  • Implements and maintains a comprehensive multi-channel communication strategy and editorial content calendar to inform, influence, and engage prospective students across all segments and enrollment stages.
  • Serves as copywriter for all electronic communications, ensuring compliance with editorial standards, style guides, university policies, branding guidelines, and industry best practices.
  • Researches, writes, proofs, and edits copy for email, print, web, and social media communications.
  • Reviews and edits enrollment materials for consistency and accuracy.
  • Researches current methods and trends in print and electronic communication and marketing.
  • Manages daily setup of email/SMS messages, recipient lists, conditional logic, and A/B testing for all mailings in the CRM, including ad hoc messages, process reminders, and event communications.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders to create and execute outreach strategies for enrollment events, athletic recruitment, special projects, and more.
  • Plans and authors emails to non-student constituents such as parents, high school counselors, community-based and college access organizations, alumni, corporate partners, etc.
  • Solicits and edits messages from faculty, staff, alumni, current students, and parents for use in communication flows.
  • Works collaboratively within internal approval frameworks to ensure accuracy, consistency, and brand alignment.
  • Supports construction and maintenance of web pages and portals related to admissions.
  • Analyzes data to assess the effectiveness of communications and deliverability of email campaigns; evaluates ROI using higher education benchmarks.
  • Monitors other institutions’ marketing approaches and industry-specific trends; recommends adjustments to strategy.
  • Consults on photography or multimedia needs to strengthen enrollment communications.
  • Serves as a CRM expert for communications.

Event Forms and Content Development (20%)

  • Collaborates with Enrollment Operations on communication related to enrollment events.
  • Supports enrollment event build needs and best practices with partner colleges.
  • Coordinates RFP processes, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing relationships with enrollment-specific marketing partners/vendors.
  • Gathers information for external sites and profiles to ensure relevance and currency.
  • Works with vendors on Slate communications.

Other Responsibilities (5%)

  • Supports implementation and integration of new application systems and associated communications.
  • Assists with data entry, integrity, reporting, and analytics.
  • Maintains understanding of admissions policies, procedures and student data to inform strategies.
  • Participates on Undergraduate Admissions committees.
  • Assists with on/off campus events and programs, with occasional travel and work during evenings or weekends.
  • Completes special projects and duties as assigned.
  • Prioritizes the student experience with exceptional customer service.

Working Conditions

Climate-controlled office environment with high volume of customer service traffic. Some weekend and evening hours may be required. Must handle high or increased stress levels during peak recruitment times.
