Overview

This strategic role is responsible for cultivating and maintaining relationships with media across the service region, managing all earned media efforts, and implementing the organization's public relations campaigns. The Director will assist in the development of comprehensive internal and external strategic messaging that supports the health system's mission and strategic priorities.

Qualifications

Education required: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field

Experience:

  • Minimum 5-7 years of progressive communications experience, with at least 3 years in healthcare or complex organizational environments
  • Demonstrated expertise in media relations with proven track record or securing positive media coverage
  • Crisis communication experience, including managing high-stakes situations and sensitive organizational issues
  • Experience developing and executing strategic communication plans for large organizations
  • Proven success managing executive communication for C-suites leaders

Additional Skills/Abilities:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with ability to craft compelling narratives for diverse audiences
  • Strong media relations skills. Established relationships with regional and state media preferred
  • Strategic thinking with ability to anticipate issues and develop proactive communication approaches
  • Sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential and sensitive information
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities in fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to build relationships across all organizational levels
  • Proficiency with media monitoring tools, communication platforms, and digital communication channels
  • Understanding of healthcare industry dynamics, regulatory environment, and sensitivity to HIPAA requirements
