Job Summary/Description WIFR is looking for a full-time Broadcast IT Engineer for our television station in Rockford, Illinois. This position combines IT Engineering as well as Broadcast Engineering. This engineer is responsible for areas of end‑user support, including building and maintaining Windows desktops and laptops, managing servers, printers, backups, end‑user applications, basic IP networking skills, cabling, and all other related systems and equipment. This engineer will also train in areas of broadcast transmission equipment, be responsible for audio‑visual equipment repair, and basic building maintenance, where needed.

Duties/Responsibilities

Provide all areas of desktop client support for local and remote employees

Build and manage Windows desktops and laptops

Build and manage Windows servers, file shares, backups, and plans for disaster recovery

Manage local Active Directory user accounts, passwords, and access to local resources

Set up work areas, including docking stations, monitors, and printers

Install and support Microsoft Office and other client applications

Work with local engineering management and corporate IT to support local employees’ use of company applications

Work with broadcast engineers and newsroom staff to support news operations.

Work with local engineering management and corporate IT to administer, install, and troubleshoot network equipment, including switches, routers, and firewalls

Maintain station phone system and voicemail, to include adding/removing employees

Process trouble tickets in the company’s helpdesk system

Perform other tasks related to the position as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements

Have knowledge regarding IT technology and be able to step in and assist in emergencies

An associate’s degree in information technology, broadcast engineering, or a related field/experience is preferred

Broadcast engineering experience is a plus, but we will train.

Experience managing Windows Servers, including network file shares and on‑premise applications

Experience managing Windows Active Directory, including ADUC, DNS, DHCP, and GPO

Experience with virtual server and virtual application environments like VMware and Citrix is helpful

Experience with backup applications like Veeam is helpful

Basic to intermediate IP networking skills, to include understanding of IP addressing, subnet masks, routes, default gateways, and VLANs

Cabling skills, to include crimping RJ45, BNC, and F connectors

Understanding and use of IP networking tools such as ping, traceroute, whois, ipconfig, and nslookup

Eagerness to take on new projects with minimal supervision and a focus on best practice implementations

Strong communication skills, excellent problem‑solving skills, and a positive, customer‑oriented mindset

Must be able to insert and remove control room rack equipment weighing 25‑50 pounds with the help of another employee

Must have a driver’s license and a good driving record
