Job Description
The School District of Beloit is seeking a passionate and dedicated Middle School Music Teacher to join our dynamic team. This role will provide instructions at two separate middle schools as a split assignment. The successful candidate will engage students in grades 6–8 through meaningful, standards-based music instruction that cultivates creativity, critical thinking, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts. This educator will design and deliver lessons that reflect cultural diversity, encourage student participation, and develop musical literacy across a variety of genres and traditions.
Essential Job Functions
- Deliver standards-based instruction aligned with Wisconsin DPI Music Standards.
- Teach music fundamentals including rhythm, melody, harmony, composition, and performance skills.
- Direct and organize school music ensembles (choir, band, or general music), including rehearsals and performances.
- Plan and lead seasonal concerts, assemblies, and community music events.
- Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment that supports creativity and collaboration.
- Integrate technology tools to enhance instruction, rehearsal, and assessment.
- Assess student progress through formative and summative measures; maintain accurate records.
- Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and administrators to support student growth and program development.
- Participate in building and district-level professional learning communities and professional development activities.
- Demonstrate strong classroom management and student engagement strategies.
- Uphold district policies and maintain confidentiality in all student and staff matters.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a related field.
Valid Wisconsin DPI License in Music Education (K–12) – Code #1777 or #1088.
Demonstrated knowledge of instrumental and/or vocal music pedagogy.
Strong musicianship skills (instrumental, vocal, or both).
Effective communication, organization, and technology integration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with middle school students and/or directing middle school bands, choirs, or ensembles.
Familiarity with culturally responsive teaching and diverse musical repertoire.
Ability to collaborate across disciplines to integrate music with core academic subjects.
Knowledge of music software or applications (e.g., SmartMusic, Soundtrap, GarageBand, or Noteflight).
Work Environment
Instruction occurs in classrooms, rehearsal spaces, and performance venues.
Evening and weekend hours are occasionally required for concerts, festivals, or community events.
