The Mechanical Designer is responsible for working with Project Managers, Design Engineers, Process Engineers, and Engineering Management to develop accurate and complete equipment designs including 3D models and drawings, as well as parts lists, bill of materials, and other component related information critical to the success of the project. The designer will develop new products and revise existing ones.

Duties & Responsibilities

Design products from initial concept through production in a professional and time efficient manner

Produce SolidWorks® 3D Models and Detail Drawings in accordance with design and specification requirements

Create General Arrangement (GA) and shop level fabrication drawings from information provided by Engineering, Project Management, and/or Sales, following company standards and customer specifications

Prepare Process Flow Diagrams (PFD) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID)

Perform drafting check of drawings; update and revise as needed

Prepare Bills of Material (BOM)

Support the Manufacturing team by troubleshooting fabrication issues, offering and implementing solutions

Participate in Design Reviews as required

Continuously monitor design/drafting progress and report to Project Manager as needed

Create Dimensional Surveys and prepare “As Built” Drawings

Assist in the development of company design systems, standards, and procedures

Contribute development ideas for new and existing products

Required Skills or Tools

Proficient with SolidWorks® design software or equivalent

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Ability to effectively apply Industry Codes and Standards (ASME Section VIII, Div. 1, ASME B31.3, AWS, API, ASTM, NACE, OSHA, etc.)

Knowledge of piping and pipe schedules, flanges, fittings, valves and instruments used in oilfield production equipment

High attention to detail and pride in work output

Able to read and interpret Engineering Drawings (Process Flow Diagrams, General Arrangement, P&ID, Pressure Vessel, Piping, etc.)

Excellent Problem-Solving Skills: ability to define/understand the problem, identify constraints, and work towards the best possible solution

Ability to design cost effective fabrication

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Ability to work outside in manufacturing, field processing, and production site atmospheres

Education and Experience

Bachelor of Engineering or Engineering Technology degree and 3 years’ experience with design of pressurized equipment

Technical degree with minimum 5 years’ experience with design of pressurized equipment

Work Location: ABILENE, TX

Work Environment & Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk, sit, use hands to handle objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk and hear. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds waist high. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office. The noise level in the work environment will require hearing protection when in the manufacturing shops. Occasionally the employee may need to engage manufacturing workers in their work environment.
