Responsibilities
Aids in interviewing, hiring and training employees
Determines work priorities and coordinates work activities within the construction site
Monitors and manages employee attendance, ensuring timely arrival and participation of all crew members
Notifies employees of rain days prior to the start of the work
Delegates tasks and accountabilities, instructs, supervises, leads and directs crew
Leads and directs people, equipment and resources in the construction of projects
Recommends employees for promotions, pay raises, and transfers
Ensures sufficient deployment and productivity of work crews
Engages in open communication with other Superintendents/Foremen and Project Managers and reports any issues that could affect the project plan
Uses survey equipment or GPS equipment to ensure proper grades
Organizes and coordinates daily activities of all crew members, subcontractors, equipment, and utilizes corrective action to keep the project on time and on budget
Identifies and executes best practices concerning the efficient use of construction materials
Plans work in an efficient and effective order, maximizing progress in a safe and timely manner
Reviews and adheres to construction schedules, ensuring milestones and completion dates are met
Ensures company equipment is lawfully operated, cared for, maintained and used effectively
Reads and interprets project plans and specifications
Operates heavy equipment and other construction duties as necessary
Ensures a solid understanding of and complies with the principles of the company’s Code of Ethics
Examines situations in light of the principles of the Code of Ethics
Ensures all new hires receive any on‑the‑job training required
Liaises between the company and employees on a variety of employee‑related matters
Coordinates construction activities that involve scheduling meetings and reviewing project documents
Keeps cost records on work performed and materials; is responsible for control of costs in materials and wages
Exercises control over rate of construction progress to complete the project within time limits; schedules jobs and operations
Estimates materials needed for specific jobs and estimates manpower needed for specific jobs
Acts as an adviser on job‑related problems
Deals with individuals demanding information or service such as inspectors, engineers and owners
Fills out timesheets and daily logs and records hours for time worked of all employees under direct supervision
Promotes, executes and adheres to the company’s safety program, encouraging employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture
Conducts daily and weekly safety meetings and inspections
Reviews safe work plans/hazard assessments with crew before job commencement
Works with Safety Department to investigate damage, incidents or near‑misses and ensures proper procedures are carried out according to the company’s Safety Program
Works in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself or endanger the wellbeing of others
Works under administrative supervision from the President, Vice President, Project Manager or other management to plan, coordinate and supervise construction activities per the plans, specifications and details provided
Qualifications
Must be able to sit or stand for multiple hours
Must be proficient with a computer and various software
Must be able to work long hours, weekends and have ability to telecommute as needed
Must be able to work in outdoor environments and be exposed to heat, rain, cold, wind, and other weather activities
Must be able to walk long distances
Must be able to lift 50 lbs
Must be able to perform manual labor including raking, shoveling, chopping, hammering, etc.
Must wear required PPE as per safety manual and OSHA regulations
Must ensure a solid understanding of and compliance with principles of the company's Code of Ethics
