The ECF Endowment Management program (“EM”) is one of the Episcopal Church Foundation’s core services. We seek a leader who thrives in a collaborative, faith‑based environment and is passionate about strengthening The Episcopal Church.

The Acting Executive Director of Endowment Management provides collaborative leadership to the Endowment Management team and its external investment partner, and also participates in marketing and client acquisition efforts with Managing Directors.

This Acting Executive Director integrates endowment management services across the Episcopal Church Foundation’s philanthropic programs and plays a key role in planning ECF’s Shared Services framework, a new business line.

Reporting to the CEO and President, the Acting Executive Director is a member of the Foundation’s Executive Team and is responsible for managing a team of 8 to 10 people, with 2 direct reports.

Basic Endowment Management Responsibilities

Work closely with Managing Directors and assess the current Endowment Management team's strengths and gaps, and develop a clear development plan to build leadership and business management.

Monitor and report on asset allocation and investment performance.

Liaise with/manage external investment partner, consultants, and investment managers.

Develop and manage annual EM budget.

Present detailed reports on performance, marketing, and trends to the Board of Directors’ Investment Committee quarterly and to the Board of Directors annually.

Responsible for reviewing and updating EM program fee structures.

Conduct regular, formal reviews of endowment performance and investment strategies to optimize returns.

Work closely with Managing Directors to develop marketing and sales strategies aimed at expanding the client base within Episcopal faith‑based organizations, and guide the EM team in implementing these strategies.

Work closely with Managing Directors to actively engage in acquiring new clients, including identifying prospects, conducting outreach, delivering presentations, preparing proposals, and closing.

Work closely with Managing Directors to oversee all aspects of client service, ensuring timely, accurate, and proactive support for clients.

Establish and monitor service standards, workflows, and follow‑up procedures.

Work closely with Managing Directors to provide practical governance guidance to vestries, boards, and investment committees on endowment policies, spending rules, and fiduciary responsibilities.

Support the CEO in developing the Episcopal Church Foundation’s Strategic Plan and in designing a framework for a new business line, Shared Services.

Align EM team efforts with the Foundation’s mission and long‑term goals to develop a coordinated strategic vision across philanthropic services and shared services, a new business line.

Demonstrate self‑awareness, empathy, and the ability to manage conflict and stress.

Clearly communicate expectations, provide feedback, and foster open dialogue.

Inspire, organize, and develop team members to achieve collective objectives.

Foster a culture of mutual respect, shared purpose, collaboration, and constructive debate.

Set clear goals and hold the team responsible for outcomes.

Develop and maintain relationships at all levels within Endowment Management, across the Foundation, and externally.

Regularly reevaluate and design the team’s organizational structure to optimize efficiency, define roles clearly, and develop scalable workflows in preparation for future growth.

Act as a mentor and role model executive behaviors.

Represent the Episcopal Church Foundation both internally and externally by serving as a steward of the Foundation and its mission in professional settings.

Proactively follow up with relevant stakeholders and document relationships, outings, events, etc., in the ECF CRM, and provide a summary update to the Executive Team.

Requirements

A bachelor's degree is required; a graduate degree in business, public policy, marketing, or related fields is preferred.

Deep understanding of The Episcopal Church's structure, mission, and values.

20+ years of progressively responsible nonprofit/church experience: Demonstrated executive management experience in nonprofit or church‑related organizations.

20+ years of progressively responsible financial services industry experience: Demonstrated experience in wealth management, marketing, client services, or financial planning.

Work regularly at the Episcopal Church Foundation office, 475 Riverside Drive, Suite 750, New York, NY.

Salary and Benefits The starting salary range for the newly hired Acting Director of Endowment Management is $155,000 to $175,000. The Episcopal Church Foundation offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience and a comprehensive benefits package.
