The Digital Court Reporting Manager is responsible for ensuring that multiple court proceedings from seven locations throughout the circuit are digitally recorded. This position is a working manager, meaning that he or she monitors and annotates court proceedings in addition to other managerial duties. This position is also responsible for coordinating court reporting services with the Manager of Court Reporting Services, Official Court Reporters, and contractual transcriptionists and proofers. The Digital Court Reporting Manager stays abreast of the latest technological advances in the field and assists with the hiring and training of department personnel. This position may be required to sit in one position for long periods of time. The position works under the general supervision of the Director of Court Services and supervises twenty-five full-time employees. The ability to troubleshoot computer/software issues and a strong ability to multitask is a must.
The manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating digital court recording services throughout the circuit, including tracking appeal due dates and assigning and coordinating transcripts to ensure timely completion. The role includes supervising staff by selecting or recommending candidates, providing training, assigning and evaluating work, counseling and disciplining employees as needed, and directing team leads on task distribution, with occasional travel to other locations within the circuit.
Duties also involve recording and annotating court proceedings, reviewing transcripts received from private transcriptionists, and preparing transcripts as required. The manager ensures proper data storage and archiving of court recordings in compliance with applicable regulations and statutes. Additionally, this role provides high-level customer service by assisting judges, attorneys, and the public with requests such as access to audio recordings, responding professionally via phone and email, and supporting the courtroom staff with playback and judicial requests. Responsibilities also include preparing and maintaining statistical data related to digital court reporting, updating departmental policies, and processing court orders and transcript requests.
Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in computer operations, business management, paralegal, law or a closely related field from an accredited four-year college or university, which may be substituted for the recommended years of experience. Relevant experience may substitute for the recommended educational level on a year-for-year basis. Five (5) years of related work experience, including at least two years of supervisory experience, along with ample experience with the criminal justice system. Applicant must have AAERT CER certification, but CER plus CET preferred.
