Job Summary The Aquatics Director is an exempt position responsible for the financial success of the Aquatics Program through ongoing creation and development of staff, programs, services, and facilities. The director leads associates to meet member needs, exceed expectations, and ensure program success.

Primary Job Functions Employee Management:

Hires, trains, supervises, develops, and terminates staff in accordance with company policies. Performs performance evaluations, compiles performance reports, implements employment and safety policies, oversees daily operations, processes payroll, and acts as Manager on Duty when required.

Aquatics Management:

Creates, develops, and implements programming for the aquatics center, including recreational, educational, fitness, swim team, swim instruction, masters, and water aerobics. Develops new services, tracks utilization, handles customer service, communication, marketing, purchasing, and program evaluation. Conducts daily walk‑throughs to ensure a clean, safe, and well‑maintained facility.

Financial Accountability:

Manages financial performance of the aquatic program by achieving sales and revenue targets, managing expenses, planning and forecasting, and retaining members. Tracks, reports, and analyzes financial operations; implements action plans to meet or exceed monthly financial goals; assists in annual operating and capital budgets; reviews financial statements.

Communication and Relationships:

Interacts and communicates professionally with senior management, managers, associates, vendors, members, and the community. Promotes harmonious relations, follows up in a timely manner, and participates in required events, meetings, and trainings.

Corporate Goals & Objectives:

Promotes safety goals, ensures compliance with company policies, furtheres aquatics objectives, supports continuous improvement, participates in committees, prioritizes professional development, and remains flexible with scheduling including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

Ability to perform each primary job function satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made for disabilities.

Skills & Knowledge: Swim technique knowledge for teaching all ages.

Current research in learn‑to‑swim skills, competitive swimming, and childhood development.

Knowledge of company policies, federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

Personnel management: hiring, motivating, developing, and directing people.

Financial management: budgeting, banking, financial reports, mathematics.

Sales and marketing strategy and tactics.

Problem anticipation and deductive reasoning.

Written and oral comprehension and expression.

Computer proficiency in MS Office and aquatics software.

Experience & Education: Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications.

Minimum 5 years of prior aquatics management experience.

Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience in customer service preferred.

Demonstrated ability to support and develop a diverse environment.

Lifeguard Instructor preferred.

Certified Pool Operator (CPO) preferred.

Current Red Cross Lifeguard Certification; WSI preferred.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements Interacts regularly with members and clients in person, phone, and email.

Handles difficult situations with unpleasant or angry people.

Adapts to a frequently changing environment.

Works indoors and outdoors, often in varying weather conditions.

Requires frequent standing, walking, climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

Requires vision abilities for close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision.

Requires occasional travel to swim meets or other clubs.

Estimated Base Pay Range $70,304.00 – $80,000.00 / year
