Performs semi-skilled work in the general maintenance of Transit buses, equipment and facilities, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the supervision of the Crew Leader - Maintainer and Lead Mechanic. This position is classified as an essential position during designated planned or unplanned events. The position also involves performance of safety-sensitive functions as defined by 49 CFR Part 655, as amended.

Shift:

Overnight shift (9:00 pm to 5:30 am)- scheduled days TBD but could consist of weeknights and weekend nights

$ 2,000 hiring bonus payable at the following intervals:

Satisfactorily complete 2 months of employment - $600

Satisfactorily complete 4 months of employment - $600

Complete 6 months of employment and receive a successful rating at the end of probation evaluation - $800

There is a $2 per hour shift premium for this position.

Shift: Evening and overnight shift. Hours and scheduled days TBD, but could consist of both weekdays and weekends.

Washes bus exteriors using automated wash equipment

Details transit vehicles seasonally

Cleans bus interiors

Changes fare box vaults

Fuels vehicles in the designated areas

Checks and fills fluid levels of transit vehicles as required.

Notifies transit mechanics of any issues with fleet vehicles including leaks, new damage, safety concerns, etc.

Parks fleet on the lot and in the parking area in an orderly fashion

Maintains immediate work area and grounds

Performs minor maintenance and repairs to the automated washer

Maintains and orders supplies as needed

Maintains records and documents as required

Cleans bodily fluid spills and cleans/treats bloodborne spills

Assists in the training of new staff members

Complies with regulations governing the handling and disposal of hazardous waste and personal protection

General knowledge of the operation and routine cleaning requirements of transit passenger buses

General knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing passenger bus operations on public streets

General knowledge of routine maintenance and repair work and of the use of common hand tools

Skill in the safe operation of passenger buses and the automated wash facility

Ability to perform manual labor

Ability to follow oral and written instructions

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED required

Moderate experience in the maintenance and operation of large automotive equipment, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Special Requirements

Valid Driver's License with a satisfactory record

This is a safety-sensitive position subject to drug and alcohol testing guidelines as set forth by the Federal Transit Administration and the US Department of Transportation in 49 CFR Part 40, and Part 655, as amended

A pre-employment drug screening is required for this position

Drug and alcohol testing guidelines set forth by the U.S. Department of Transportation and Federal Transit Administration, will be followed during the employment period

This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force

Work regularly requires using hands to finger, handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions, frequently requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and pushing or pulling and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, tasting or smelling and lifting

Work has standard vision requirements

Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word

Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels

Work requires operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities

Work frequently requires exposure to wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires working in high, precarious places, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to vibration and exposure to Bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment

Work is generally in a loud noise location (e.g. grounds maintenance, heavy traffic)
