What You’ll Be Doing

Primary Market Business: Supporting the origination, structuring and distribution of underwritten and arranged syndicated credits within identified industry portfolios in the corporate bank’s loan portfolio in the US.

Secondary Market Business: Providing support for the team’s sales coverage of more than 200 commercial banks as well as numerous non‑bank investors in the loan market to facilitate purchases and sales for the bank’s portfolio, enhancing capital efficiency and maximizing loan portfolio profitability.

Analysis of financial markets, loan markets, financing trends, deal database management, investor database management, and other related subjects; contributing to client pitches and internal presentations and internal as well as external reporting.

Supporting the development and execution of overall business strategies.

Flexibility to work hours as needed to help deliver a great client experience, which may include evenings and weekends. Work arrangement (proportion of on‑site and remote work) will be discussed at interview.

How You’ll Succeed

Researching and monitoring primary and secondary loan market trends, including structural and price trends, investor behavior and financial market metrics, and incorporating these into financing proposals for issuers while communicating effectively to internal and external clients.

Researching and monitoring client‑ and borrower‑specific credit and business trends for new loan proposals, client pitches and investor due diligence, both in primary distribution and secondary market sales.

Supporting loan underwriting analyses, including market risk analysis, liquidity analysis, comparable transaction analysis, and prevailing market conditions for risk mitigation and distribution options to achieve CIBC’s sell‑down target.

Reviewing information memoranda, proposals and presentations; helping prepare new business memos and underwriting proposals.

Maintaining databases of loans and loan investors and ongoing contact with loan investors.

Supporting the organization and management of deal launches, bank meetings and marketing events.

Assisting with investor questions during primary distribution phases and supporting timely and efficient closing of purchases and sales during secondary closing processes.

Who You Are

Degree in Economics, Accounting, Finance or related field.

Minimum 0–5 years related experience.

Demonstrated knowledge of capital markets, investment banking, private/public debt and equity capital markets, trade finance, foreign exchange, commercial paper, securitization and financial products.

Well‑developed knowledge of corporate credit, experience in analyzing credit proposals and modeling, excellent understanding of financial statements and accounting principles.

Excellent English written and verbal communication skills; foreign languages a plus.

Excellent presentation skills, ability to create and maintain good relationships with clients and market peers.

Ability to work in a results‑oriented team focused on clients.

Ability to handle complexity under tight deadlines.

Well‑developed organizational skills to respond to shifting priorities on several simultaneous projects.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Compensation & Benefits The expected salary range for this role is

$115,000–$185,000

for the New York, New York market based on experience, qualifications, and location. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which may include a discretionary bonus component.
