The National Park Service invites applications for a temporary and potentially permanent
Supervisor Criminal Investigator – Deputy Chief
position. The appointment is within the Investigative Services Branch (ISB) and will oversee investigations across multiple states and NPS regions.
Job Summary Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) responsible for supervising criminal and administrative investigations, managing Special Agents, and ensuring investigative resources are adequate.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise criminal and administrative investigations.
Evaluate and manage performance of Special Agents, including disciplinary actions and training needs.
Plan programs to ensure adequate resources for investigations.
Collaborate with investigators, attorneys, and law‑enforcement officials from other jurisdictions.
Analyze evidence and intelligence to guide investigative tactics.
Probationary Period 1‑year probation with evaluation of fitness, performance, and public‑interest impact. Continuation requires written certification that employment should advance public interest.
Conditions of Employment
U.S. citizenship required.
Background investigation and favorable adjudication.
Meet Selective Service registration (for males).
Direct deposit required; drug screening and possible random testing.
Average 50‑hour work week, irregular hours, 24/7 on‑call (including holidays and weekends).
Travel up to 4 nights per month; travel card required.
Travel and procurement training required.
Qualifications
Medical standards per DO/RM57; physical and mental health requirements.
Law‑enforcement experience required; at least one year of specialized GS‑12‑level experience.
Type I Law‑Enforcement commission (FLERT LMPT or equivalent) required.
Required to carry firearm, maintain proficiency, and testify in court.
Financial disclosure reporting requirement.
Valid driver’s license and submission of driving records from all states.
Applicable time‑in‑grade requirements for former federal employees.
Mandatory retirement at age 57 after 20 years; minimum age 21; not over 37 at appointment.
Additional Information Application deadline: 01/12/2026 or the first 25 applicants, whichever comes first. Candidates must submit a non‑award SF‑50 for each federal position to demonstrate full‑time hours. Volunteer experience qualifies for credit.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions Extended unscheduled duty, irregular hours, travel, exposure to hazardous conditions, and duties requiring advanced physical exertion.
Telework Position may allow telework with supervisor approval.
